Orbital ATK Cygnus Commercial Resupply Services Mission (OA-9)

An Orbital ATK Antares rocket carrying an uncrewed Cygnus cargo spacecraft will launch from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport's Pad O-A at NASA's Wallops Flight Facility, Virginia on the OA-9E mission.

OA-9E is an extension to Orbital ATK's NASA-contracted flights to the International Space Station under the Commercial Resupply Services program.

This is the NASA insignia for Orbital ATK's OA-9 resupply flight.

Does anyone have any idea of the symbolism of the patch, in particular the green areas? I assumed at first that they were land areas, the farthest left one looks somewhat like the Kamchatka Peninsula, but obviously it's not. The Cygnus vessel itself appears to have some sort of characters on it also.

I don't know about the land masses (maybe they are just representative), but the "characters" on the Cygnus appear to be the way the artist chose to render the foil insulation on the service module.

Here is the AB Emblem embroidered patch:

Can anyone provide the mission insignia description for the Orbital ATK version of the patch? I do not have one of the decal for this mission that usually provides the description and I have came up empty handed on the internet. Thanks!!

This is what the back of the decal says:
The backdrop of this mission patch is the American flag, which proudly represents Orbital ATK's ninth Commercial Resupply Services (CRS) mission to deliver supplies to the International Space Station.

The name of the mission, OA-9, is featured in the center of the patch with an enlarged number nine and nine yellow stars. Along the right side of the patch is the Antares rocket which will lift off from the Mid Atlantic Regional Spaceport's (MARS) pad, launching the Cygnus spacecraft into orbit.

Cygnus, depicted on the left side of the patch, will berth and deliver provisions and science experiments to the astronaut crew on the ISS. This is the first mission to use the new C2V2 radio, depicted by the radio waves emitting signals from the spacecraft to the ISS.

The name of the program is prominently displayed at the top of the patch and our customer and cargo delivery partner are shown in the center. This patch was designed by Orbital ATK employee, Joseph F. Robinette.
