Orbital ATK Cygnus Commercial Resupply Services Mission (OA-8E)

An Orbital ATK Antares rocket carrying an uncrewed Cygnus cargo spacecraft will launch from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport's Pad O-A at NASA's Wallops Flight Facility, Virginia on the OA-8E mission.

OA-8E is an extension to Orbital ATK's NASA-contracted flights to the International Space Station under the Commercial Resupply Services program.

This is the NASA insignia for Orbital ATK's OA-8E resupply flight.

Orbital ATK's OA-8 patch (via spacepatches.nl):
The OA-8 mission is Orbital ATK's eighth Commercial Resupply Services (CRS) mission to deliver supplies to the International Space Station, depicted by the shape of the patch being a numeral eight along with the yellow star at the top of the patch.

This mission launches on an Antares rocket represented by the red, white and blue trajectory emanating from the Wallops Flight Facility on Virginia's Eastern Shore. The Cygnus spacecraft, with its solar panels deployed, is shown rising into orbit on the top left side of the 8. The space station, where Cygnus will berth and deliver provisions and science experiments to the astronaut crew, is depicted on the top right side of the patch.

The Cygnus spacecraft for this mission is named in honor of former astronaut, (TBD), who is represented by the astronaut symbol to the left of the Earth. The name of the program and the customer are featured on the outer ring of the design.

This patch was designed by Orbital ATK employees, George Valuikas and Gary Burnside.

These AB Emblem Orbital CRS ATK OA-8 patches have been a long time coming with embedded labels on them. Thousands of them have been issued/released without any labels on them. So far I have been able to find four different embedded labels, all four are old style labels. (Including the March 2018 batch made in China).
  • 282114 Made In USA 7/1755 (Prototype with royal blue Earth, and darker purple octopus).
  • 282369 Made In USA 8/17/20 (dark blue Earth, darker purple octopus and darker orange in the ISS solar arrays).
  • The patches I've got without embedded labels match the 8/17/20 (USA) date code patches.
  • 282369 Made In USA 11/1755 (dark blue Earth and darker purple octopus).
  • 282369 Made In China 03/18/40 (royal blue Earth, lighter purple octopus and darker orange in the ISS solar arrays).

Update 28th December 2019:
No new date codes have been found since this original message was posted on 18th August 2018.

All times are CT (US)
