NASA Vehicle Integration Test Office (VITO) insigniaEarlier this year, I was contacted by the team in NASA's Vehicle Integration Test Office. The astronaut representative is our friend, Tim Kopra, who flew on the space shuttle Endeavour during STS-127 and who was originally assigned to STS-133. Tim was familiar with our work and asked us to create this insignia. VITO's job is to track vehicle development and operational issues for the crew to ensure maximum efficiency and safety. With the end of the shuttle program they wanted an updated emblem. Jorge Cartes and I were only to happy to help. |

I picked up one of your patches today, so I am wondering if you can fill me in on the “Insignia” part of its history. Now I know the creators, but can you provide the symbolizing of the patch, why such and such colors were used, how the design was chosen or thought of? Things of that nature. Would greatly appreciate it. |

It's really very simple, almost self explanatory. - The "V" illustrates the most important word in the name, "Vehicle."
- The integral symbol completes the V and helps underline the work done by the VITO team.
- The blue horizon represents Earth, the Sun breaking the horizon illustrates a new dawn, new day, new era in VITO operations.
- This team has been performing this work since Apollo and so the spacecraft in orbit around the Earth celebrate that history.
I hope this helps. |
