ISS National Lab 'Rodent Research' patchesSince 2014, NASA and the ISS National Lab (Center for the Advancement of Science in Space or CASIS) have flown mice to the International Space Station as part of an on-going series of Rodent Research experiments, focused on investigating different biological aspects of microgravity exposure. Each Rodent Research study has been launched and landed aboard SpaceX Dragon cargo spacecraft:

The Denver Post reports on how a local ground-breaking abstract artist was tapped to design the Rodent Research-4 patch. ...the siblings reunited on a project that is headed for space on Saturday. Melissa Kacena is currently in Cape Canaveral, Fla., prepping 40 mice for a trip to the International Space Station. They'll be studied as part of a bone recovery experiment. She tapped her brother to design the official patch for the team's space mission, the Rodent Research IV. |

Based on the style, I am pretty sure that the R3 patch was designed by James White. He recently designed the "Rogue NASA" twitter account logo, too. |

To my knowledge, there are no retail sources for these patches. Any that are available to collectors would be through secondary sales, based on distribution to the team's members. |

AB Emblem have just listed their remainder of the Rodent Research 19 Mighty Mice patch on their website. Only about 3 or possibly 4 of these patches were available. They have SKU patch design number 420190. The date code is 01/19 20. Thanks Liem. |

The date code 01/19 20 on this Rodent Research 19 patch is an error date code. It should read 01/20 20. A number of other patches (another five that I know about), which were manufactured at Weaverville during January, February and March 2020 with SKU patch design numbers starting with "42" and "419" also have embedded labels with error January, February and March 2019 date codes on their embedded labels. |
