Earlier this week, Kennedy Space Center marked the 50th anniversary of its two crawler-transporters. NASA also marked the milestone online, releasing an infographic that included this logo:

(There's been no word if the logo was produced as physical patches or pins.)

Nice image, but too low key for the achievements and work that these historic machines did and will do in the future.

When will NASA get round to celebrating the achievements that CT-1 and CT-2 did for the U.S. space programs over the last 50 years? Without them they would not had all the achievements that came with them. With out CT-1 and CT-2 they'd all still be back in the VAB with no way to get to the pads.

I put an idea for a celebratory patch or set of patches on this thread in 2013. it would nice to see it made up now for the 50th anniversary as an unofficial patch.

My idea was this: a small VAB on the left side with a tortoise (with a NASA cap on) and a mobile launch platform as its shell with a Saturn V, Saturn-Skylab, Saturn IB, shuttle, Ares I-X and SLS on it back in the middle (one spacecraft to a patch or one big patch with the Saturn rockets (V and IB) fading out to the left and the shuttle on the MLP and the I-X and Space Launch System faded up to the right) offset to the middle of the patch a sign with the logo; "Have the first 3.5 miles on me" on it. On the right, the pads with or without the rotating service structure.

On the outside of the patch the words, top part: KSC Crawler-Transporter "From Apollo to SLS still going strong" (and may be the years of service). Bottom part: "The Mighty Tortoise" (and maybe the name of them too or CT-1 and CT-2, one set for each one).

(I now think it can do without the tortoise all together now and instead put in a Crawler-Transporter.)

Butch, thank you for sharing the post about a potential patch creation. I'd jump at the chance to purchase one and really like the idea of having the past space vehicles represented (Saturn IB, Saturn V, mod-Saturn V (Skylab), Space Shuttle, and SLS)! Although this may get cluttered.

I do like the 50 years logo too; simple, but effective!

All times are CT (US)
