I came across a framed group of Lion Brothers Apollo mission patches and can't find much information on it. I'll try to upload some pictures this weekend.

It is a matted 26 by 21 inch picture of the earth (9x7") taken from the moon's orbit by Apollo 8, the photo is surrounded by 11 four-inch patches.

The backing is brown paper with a large Lion Brothers sticker giving the description of each mission. It also mentions the Apollo 12 through Apollo 17 patches being "numbered." Is this a common piece?

One more thing, I was cleaning the glass and noticed tiny spots over the moon picture that would not clean off. They are actually etched stars on the inside of the glass.

I've never heard of this, but would love to see pictures. Sounds nice!

Did Lion Brothers sell any framed patch sets?

You can go to Chris Spain's site at Crewpatches.com and get a good explanation of the LB patches and dimensions. It looks like from your picture you have all LB patches that someone framed years ago. It looks personal and not something a company would put out there, in my opinion.

These pop up from time to time, and indeed they were issued by Lion Bros. circa 1972. I have seen them described as "salesman's samples," and perhaps they were used by Lion sales people to promote their patches or as giveaways to retail outlets. They are the only place I have ever seen the descriptive sheet on the back. I've never examined one in person before, so the information about the stars is interesting.

Thanks for the replies on the framed patches.

The detail and depth of the stitching is incredible. I can't tell if they are cloth backed or not, and I also need to check out the photo for any markings, just not sure I want to 'break' the backing.

Another finding on the 'stars' on the glass I mentioned earlier. Under natural sunlight, a few looked like nebulas, I think they could be tiny spotty mold tracks from the photograph. Not sure.

All times are CT (US)
