Beautiful job Nick. Will you be doing the same for the ISS patches? |

Nice job Nick. I know how much work it is to put something together like that. I have created contact sheets for over 12,000 patches on my website alone and have had to update them regularly. Too time consuming for such little return. Anyways, I want to throw my two cents on the subject and I am not trying to cut you down. Not at all. You have a good thing here. So lets talk about the background. If you ever intended anyone to print this PDF, it was a bad idea to use a black background. Could you imagine how much black toner it would eat up printing a 149 page booklet? Black is great to present museum specimens on the web for visual perusal. Not great for print. Secondly, I thought it would be a lot nicer if you had both the artwork side-by-side with the official mission (not the souvenir) patch worn for each mission. You obviously have the landscape for it. Next is the advertisement of your website on every page. You don't need to brand every page like that. In my opinion it is too much "in your face" to do that. Like your trying to push a sale or something. Which detracts from the goal of book itself, to inform and share historic information. The summary's are great but where are the astronaut names who flew on those missions? And lastly, the images are pixelated and not crisp and sharp. Might want to acquire higher resolution image files. Presentation is everything when it comes to media print and web reference. If you improve on some the things I mentioned above I would be very confident that your document will stand the test of time and be available to generations for years, if not decades, to come. Enjoy and keep working on it! — Jay Harris (MIS/MIT) |

Nick, thanks for creating this and making it available to us for free... I don't mind at all that it's in the service of promoting your online shop (which I've bought from and can't recommend highly enough).I'll second a couple of the comments above and hope you'll take them as constructive criticism, not as a deterrent. The black background is cool but not practical for printing... though that didn't stop me. Also, I agree that the crews' full names and designations (i. e. CDR, PLT, MS-1, PS-1, etc.) would be a logical inclusion. This would be particularly useful in your ISS summary, given the station's overlapping crews. I also agree that if you're going to concentrate on crew patches, large, high-res pics are a must. I realize all this is available already with a few keystrokes (and in the case of Mercury through the shuttle in the book pictured, though not for free), and like others here I very much appreciate your efforts to compile it in one place. As stated earlier, I'm a satisfied customer of Spaceboosters and hope you'll take these suggestions as encouragement. Cheers! |

Thanks to both of the above posters. I can't believe you have printed it out, it does look good though. I will take suggestions on board and have had some more of them by email. Keep them coming.... It is free and will remain that way unless somebody wants it on a disc or memory stick. The information is not mine I have just brought it together from various sites. It will grow now and become more comprehensive with higher res images. Thank you. |

It does look pretty awesome in the printed and bound version I made, but most members here don't have *cough* access *cough* to the equipment I do. Keep working on this Nick! |
