For years I have enjoyed the work of my friend and space journalist Todd Halvorson. So last month when Todd approached me about designing a special patch, his personal tribute to the Florida Today-USA Today Space Shuttle Launch Day Webcast Team, I was honored to help. I was pleased to see our good friend Grayson Kamm was on the Team. This design illustrates the launch an landing of the shuttle as well as orbital operations. I included the Moon and the planet Mars because the Team also covered those missions from the KSC Press Site. One of the last events Todd covered in his career with Florida Today was the opening of the Atlantis Exhibit. Godspeed to you Todd and your wife Annis as you begin your next adventure.  |

That is awesome Tim! What a great design, and a great tribute to and from Todd! I was thrilled to join Todd and the Florida Today Space Team members as a guest for several of their shuttle launch webcasts, often talking about the patches flying aboard (fittingly, just as often designed by you, Tim). |

That is a VERY cool tribute. While I haven't known Todd long enough to really consider him a "friend" in that sense, he was always courteous to me and helpful. If you wanted to know what was going on, just keep an eye on Todd.He gave me my first professional compliment at the first shuttle launch I ever attended as a member of the press on STS-121. I won't say what the compliment was (since it did have some language in it) I've taken that compliment to heart to this day. That is a very nice patch design Tim and a very fitting tribute. Here's hoping that one day members of that team will be able to cover the next vehicle to rise from KSC's launch pads, even if Todd himself isn't able to do so. |

Very nice design, Tim, and a great patch idea for the Florida Today/Webcast Space Team. I love the shuttle launch and landing themes, the VAB on the horizon, an orbital ISS, and the lunar and planetary coverages of the team.What to me is most striking is the shuttle launch exhaust (I love the colors) and is that a sun-ray burst behind the shuttle liftoff exhaust? It's a colorful and vibrant patch. Your patch design, Tim, took me back to most of the shuttle launches when Todd would invite me to visit his news trailer (or station) at press site 39 before liftoff time. Todd would usually want a couple of the current mission pins and cachet envelope covers that I would provide him. He would tell me he must have a mission pin prior to launch, if not, the launch might not go on that particular day. Thanks for the good memories, Tim, of what is now becoming a by-gone era with no more shuttles. | |
