From the International Women's Air & Space Museum (IWASM):
We have been chosen to be the exclusive seller of a commemorative patch in honor of Astronaut Peggy Whitson. It was designed by artist Tim Gagnon and is available for pre-sale.
The patch description from the museum's online store:
Whitson recently returned to Earth after an almost ten month assignment in space. During her mission, she broke numerous records including: most experienced female astronaut, the longest single spaceflight by a woman at 288 days, the greatest number of spacewalks by a woman at 10 and the most spacewalking hours at 60 hours and 21 minutes. She now ranks third overall for her spacewalking time for all men and women astronauts and cosmonauts and stands at 665 days, 22 hours and 22 minutes of cumulative time in space which is more than any U.S. astronaut male or female. Whitson also ranks as the world's eighth most experienced astronaut/cosmonaut.

The pose is reminiscent of the famous Rosie the Riveter image.

From Tim Gagnon, a description of the patch:
The description of the patch:
  1. She's rolling up the sleeve of her flight suit. This is inspired by the iconic Rosie the Riveter "We Can Do This" posters from WWII.

  2. The stars in the flag are for her nine patches (Shuttle, Soyuz and ISS). Also for her extended stay of 9+ months.

  3. The ten stars along the bottom are for the astronauts she flew with during 50, 51 and 52.

  4. I created a special Astronaut Pin version of the "Wonder Woman" wings.

  5. All her ISS increments are represented from Expedition 5 through 52.

  6. The stars in the sky are for her 1996 classmates. Three of whom perished aboard Columbia.

  7. The Shuttle and Soyuz represent her spacecraft flown to and from orbit.

  8. The background is from the Expedition 22 patch that Jorge and I designed. The first mission that occurred after she became Chief Astronaut was Expedition 22.

Thank you for the overwhelming response to this offer. I’ve arranged to increase the first batch of these to 250. Everyone should have these in hand before Christmas.

All times are CT (US)
