NASA's Mars 2020 rover mission patch

The Mars 2020 rover is being designed to seek signs of past life on Mars, collect and store a set of soil and rock samples that could be returned to Earth in the future, and test new technology to benefit future robotic and human exploration of Mars.

A heads up in case you're interested, United Launch Alliance (ULA) is selling their Mars 2020 launch patches. I picked up a couple myself.
Exclusive ULA Atlas V Perseverance mission patch was created to commemorate our significant history launching to Mars. Each star represents a Mars mission launched by ULA and our heritage rockets. A limited supply of the patch is available for purchase.

The Mars 2020 patch at the top of this thread is now available from the AB Emblem website. The SKU patch design number is 424928 with the following date codes;
  • 424928 A-B Emblem 06/2020 (USA)
  • 424928 A-B Emblem Made In China 07/20 40
  • 424928 A-B Emblem Made In USA 07/2020
  • 434928 A-B Emblem Made In USA 0872020 (the 434 in the SKU is correct, also the word spacing has been improved)
  • 424928 A-B Emblem Made In USA 0972020
  • 424928 A-B Emblem Made In China 03/21 40 [JSC S/T cards]
  • 424928 A-B Emblem Made In USA 04/21 20
  • 424928 A-B Emblem Made In China 05/21 40 [JSC S/T cards]
  • 424928 A-B Emblem Made In China 06/21 40 [JSC S/T cards]
  • 424928 A-B Emblem Made In China 08/21 40 [JSC S/T cards]

This Mars 2020 patch was listed on the AB Emblem website at the exact same time as the launch from KSC.

It appears the AB Emblem version differs in some color choices, tweaks the design and uses a larger font, resulting in the text being compressed more than the original JPL version.

Nice catch, Robert. It's unfortunate that they used the larger font because the words are horribly crowded. "PREPAREFORHUMANS" and "COLLECTROCK"?

I would expect this from the Malaysian knock-off people (or some of the more recent US-based guys making every kind of replica lately).

AB Emblem have just changed the photo of this Mars 2020 patch on their website for another (as below). They have not improved the text, it still does not look any better. These patches are made in China.

Thanks for clearing that up. This kind of thing is one reason why I sometimes have a problem with commemorative patches, like those of Randy Hunt. No matter how pretty, they just put so much mud in the water.

Does anyone know when and where the official version was made available? I have the rectangular JPL patch, but see that the revised official version is of a different shape.

The "official" patch at the upper center was available to mission team members.

The patches at the upper left and bottom center were created by and for the Air Force launch support teams. The patch at the bottom right is a ULA souvenir (as described upthread).

The patches at the upper right and lower left preceded the rover being named. The earlier was available from the JPL Store. The latter was available to mission team members.

The National Air and Space Museum has debuted a limited-time online store featuring merchandise celebrating the landing of the Perseverance Mars rover. The store will be accessible Feb. 11 to Feb. 21 on the museum's website and will feature shirts, mugs, blankets and more.

Among the offerings is a Mars Rover Sticker Set.

Six limited edition stickers introduce you to Perseverance, the latest Mars rover, pay tribute to the planet, and showcase your support for the National Air and Space Museum.

The Space Store notes that AB Emblem has produced another version of the Mars 2020 patch, this one with darker colors:

I have placed an order for two of these colour variant Perseverance Mars 2020 patches.
I had requested details of the SKU patch design number and the date code used, but unfortunately is not available from either AB Emblem or The Space Store.

The colour variant version patch is not available to buy from the AB Emblem website. Just from the Space Store, (while stocks last).

Made by AB Emblem? Or by another patch manufacture?

It is looking like these dark colour version of the Mars 2020 patches have no embedded labels on their backs.

If anyone has this patch with an embedded label on, can I ask you to post the SKU patch design number and date code here. Many thanks.

I ordered a dark patch from the Space Store, so I will post what I find on the back.

A number of example of the lighter coloured version of the Mars 2020 patches have been found with corrected word spacing, they all have embedded labels on with the following details;
  • 424928 A-B Emblem Made In USA 0872020 (from AB Emblem)
  • 434928 A-B Emblem Made In USA 0872020 SKU number error (from AB Emblem)
  • 425577 Made In China 08/20 01 (Darker coloured variant from The Space Store) (Found on cellophane packet only)
  • 424928 A-B Emblem Made In USA 0972020 (from The Space Store)
  • 424928 A-B Emblem Made In USA 04/21 20 (AB E)

The SKU number 434928 is probably a numeral error, "3" instead of "2", it should be 424928. They also have the "7" instead of "/" errors in the date codes for the patches manufactured at Weaverville USA.

Robert, any idea where the patches shown in this picture in the bottom left and bottom center can be found (i.e. who made them, are they available anywhere, etc.)?

I searched for the (bottom center) patch on the ULA online store on launch day and it wasn't listed. I did find one on eBay the same day, but haven't seen it offered since. I am interested in the bottom left patch too.

The bottom center patch was created for the Air Force launch team. I purchased it off eBay along with the patch at the upper left.

The bottom left was given out to and acquired from a member of a mission team at JPL. I have not seen it offered for sale.

I misspoke; the bottom left patch was available from the JPL Store before the mission was named Perseverance. The patch at the upper center was the one distributed to mission team members.

As it did earlier for Perseverance's landing, the National Air and Space Museum has debuted a limited-time online store featuring merchandise celebrating the upcoming flight attempts by the Ingenuity Mars Helicopter. The store will be accessible from today (April 9) through April 30 on the museum's website and features shirts, mugs, a tote bag and more.

Among the offerings is a Mars Ingenuity Sticker Set.

Six limited edition stickers introduce you to Ingenuity, the robotic helicopter accompanying Perseverance on the mission to Mars.
