Today (May 18, 2010), Roscosmos/IMBP revealed this patch, that will be worn by the Russian members of the Mars500 crew.

Three Russians, two Europeans and a Chinese are set to start the 520 day Mars simulation on June 3, 2010 in Moscow.

The text on the patch: "Cherez terniy k Marsu" - "Through hardship to Mars" (a variant of the Russian version of the "Per aspera ad astra" slogan).

Central element on the silvery patch is the complex where the experiment will be held. The blue disc is Earth (where the experiment takes place) with a small sliver of Martian red over the horizon, symbolizing future Mars missions.

The logo on the lower left is that of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

There is small round blue insignia of ИМБП (Russian stands for IMBP – Institute of Medical-Biological Problems) in upper part of the patch.

My congratulations Erik. I think it's a very simple but specific patch in that you kept all the spirit of the mission. (It is starting being very difficult to compete with you.)

All times are CT (US)
