A few years ago, I went to Ames Research Center and at the gift shop I picked up a little blue card with a pin that had pilots wings that said "Astronaut" underneath them.

The card on one side said "Astronaut Space Club membership card." Underneath that, it said:

Participating in mechanical space rides or movies that create the sensation of space flights is an excellent way to check tolerance for space travel. Future space travel will include all ages. The person whose signature appears below is an honorary member of the club.
On the other side it says "United States of America", the pin logo and underneath that:
The above design, showing the Astronaut wings in miniature has an approved Copyright on file at the Library of Congress. Prior to each space mission since 1988 the Club has provided a lapel pin for each member to give to a person of their choice to wear during the mission. Wear this pin to demonstrate your interest and support of NASA, Military and Commercial space missions. Copyright 1984, Astronaut Space Club
I haven't been able to find anything on it. Mine is used, with my signature on the line. It is wrinkled and shows signs of age. I plan to laminate it when I get a chance.

Can I get help with more information about this? Thanks!

I work at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center in San Diego, and we used to carry Astronaut Space Club pins, certificates and cups.

The gentleman who ran the club, Don Thomas, was a retired US Air Force Major. He did say he sent pins and certificates to all astronauts before their flights. NASA sent him crew photos.

I haven't seen Don for a few years, but he did live in San Diego. Not sure if this helps, but you brought back a few nice memories for me!

I just got one as well. It came from a former astronaut. Kind of cool...

That is cool. I was kind of interested to see that it was still for sale at a NASA gift shop 20 odd some years after it was made. I guess they didn't get a lot of visitors in those past years.

I was wondering if this club is still in existence. If so, what are the requirements to join? I really like the meaning behind the organization as well as the pin associated with it.

Does anybody know anything about this Astronaut Space Club? Did they actually get some space shuttle astronauts to cooperate with them?
