I have an autographed 8 X 10 that I just had matted and framed. I now realize that there is also room for a 4" mission patch on the white mat below the photo. Any advice on attaching a 4" cloth mission patch to a stiff paper mat would be appreciated. Thanks, Bruce Moody |

Hi Bruce,Personally I would use rubber solution adhesive... always assuming I had first bought a second "replacement" patch. I guess you could be clever and use velcro, lightly stitched to the back of the patch! Regards, Rick |

Great ideas Rick - thanks! I may try a few stips (or dots) of stick-on velcro to position the patch. I think the patch will also just be touching the inside of the glass, so between those two things, the patch should stay firmly in place.I appreciate the suggestions! Best, Bruce |

For these applications I'm fond of a product called "Zots" by Thermoweb. They're pliable, transparent dots of tacky adhesive; they're also acid-free, so they shouldn't damage your display or the patch. Look in a hobby/craft store (like Hobby Lobby or Michael's) in the scrapbooking or glue section. jodie |

I tend to think that this arrangement looks too "bottom heavy" and distracts from the photo. What I have done in the past is cut the inner mat in a circular shape to fit around the patch and slightly overlying the print. Then cut the outer mat around the opposite half of the patch. This leaves a cirlcular frame around the patch and allows it to have a little space between itself and the glass. |

Double-sided fabric tape works very well too, particularly if you don't want to permenantly alter or damage the patch. |

I spoke with the person who matted and framed the photo and they have suggested something similar to this (cutting a circular section out of the top mat and dropping the patch in) and placing the patch in the lower left-hand side of the mat. If the mat were larger and/or the photo was vertical, placing the patch below the photo might be OK. The corner arrangement makes it more complementary to the photo without dominating the piece.I do appreciate all of these great suggestions and ideas. Best, Bruce |
