Scott Tingle tweeted the design for Expedition 54.
ISS Expedition 54 mission patch

The International Space Station's (ISS) Expedition 54 begins with the scheduled undocking of Soyuz MS-05 in October 2017. New crew members will arrive shortly thereafter on Soyuz MS-07.

ISS Expedition 54 will be commanded by Roscosmos cosmonaut Alexander Skvortsov. His crewmates, all flight engineers, include: Roscosmos cosmonauts Ivan Vagner and Sergei Ryazanzky, Scott Tingle and Randy Bresnik of NASA and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency astronaut Norishige Kanai.

The ISS Expedition 54 insignia was designed by artists Tim Gagnon and Jorge Cartes.

This AB Emblem ISS-54 patch has the product design No. 263940 Made In USA date code(s) unknown at this time.

Updated on 8th September: The date code used on the patches for the flight crews suits will be 8/16/20.

It looks like there might be two versions of this patch out there: one with merrowed edge and cut edge.

I asked the designer Tim Gagnon if he was aware of the specifications for the patch and he felt the cut one had way too much yellow showing, so the cut version may be unfinished or seconds. They share the same date code from A-B Emblem on the back.

Simple. The first one did not get its border (this is done by hand after the patches are cut).

If they're unfinished that begs the question as to why they were they not destroyed or finished? How did they hit the open market (at least 18 of them).

This seller has now sold a total of 30 of these obsolete Expedition 54 (original six crew name) patches so far, so it is now looking likely there is at least 30, maybe more of these "unfinished" obsolete ISS-54 patches out there?

Ashley Boykin from A-B Emblem is currently investigating as she has only authorised the ones issued to NASA and to the cosmonauts at Baikonur so far.

The old patches for Expedition 52, now patch for Expedition 54, will have to be redesigned or updated due to all the proposed crew changes. Any information, when the new ISS Expedition 54 patch is available?

You are probably looking at around Christmas 2017 or early New Year 2018. Certainly not before. (Though the astronauts, cosmonauts and launch crews/technicians will get theirs earlier).

Those who have any information, please share!

Here is the updated mission patch, which became available for viewing at Johnson Space Center earlier this week.
ISS Expedition 54 mission patch

I don't think the "54" works as good as the "52" on the original version.

Given the yellow space station as the destination (aka "cheese") and the fact that rodent research is on going on the orbiting laboratory, perhaps a more apropos description would be a mouse maze?

I am not joking.I try to understand why only five stars? I don't care neither for Tsukuba, no for Moscow...

What is the situation in this yellow house? Yellow house in Russian has a special meaning!

Great correction! I knew it was a mad house - the logo! It became mad after replacing 52 by 54... and yellow border instead of white completed it!

So no idea about 5 stars?

Doesn't redoing the patch make the prior released ones more valuable?

I couldn't help but think of "Star Wars" when I saw the new design, with the decal more so.

It has been reported to me that these current Expedition 54 patches have been found with the following on the embedded labels;

275920 A-B EMBLEM (instead of MADE IN USA) 12/1740 date code (40 being manufactured in China).

Here is front and back image of this Expedition 54 patch:

Another date code has just been reported for this ISS-54 275920 A-B EMBLEM patch. 02/1840 is another one manufactured in China.

According to Sandy McDonald of AB Emblem, all future manufactured patches will have A-B EMBLEM on the embedded labels on the backs of all their patches.

There seams to be a noticeable colour difference between the U.S. and the China manufactured Expedition 54 patches. Yellow inner border on the U.S. patches, and a slightly darker Orange/yellow on the China manufactured patches.

Here is the full list of production run date codes known so far:

  • 275920 A-B Emblem 4/17/20 (USA)
  • 275920 A-B Emblem 5/17/20 (USA)
  • 275920 A-B Emblem 8/17/20 (USA)
  • 275920 A-B Emblem 9/17/20 (USA)
  • 275920 No Embedded Labels on patches, 11/17 20 on cellophane packet only
  • 275920 A-B Emblem 12/1740 (China)
  • 275920 A-B Emblem 02/1840 (China)
  • 275920 A-B Emblem Made In China 08/18 01
  • 275920 A-B Emblem Made In China 10/1840
  • No reported date codes for 2019 or 2020 yet.

All times are CT (US)
