I am inquiring about the so-called Apollo "Launch Team" tie pins.

I have bought a few pins: Apollo 10, 12, 13.

My question is this where do they originate from, who would have been issued with them?

These pins were for sale during Apollo at Cape Kennedy Medals, Beach One and other Cocoa/Cocoa Beach souvenir shops. From Apollo 12 through 17 they were available with a gold- or silver-colored finish.

Thank you for that information...

I was of the opinion that these pins were issued to Flight Controllers possibly by NASA? Lots of them on eBay of late.

But nice pieces nonetheless!

Glad to help. It's good practice, however, to observe the distinction between the launch team at KSC and the flight team in Houston.

Both centers had excellent teamwork -- but let's just say that the launch team was a club whose members would wear these pins with a definite KSC pride.

As you suggest, it's certainly possible a contractor or even NASA might have bought some to hand out at the Cape -- but it's also true that an KSC employee or a tourist could buy these during Apollo in Cocoa Beach for about $3.00 each or less.

All times are CT (US)
