This insignia is identified as representing the Korea's 2008 Space Challenge, including Soyuz TMA-12 spaceflight participant San Ko, on the program's website.

San Ko and his back-up Soyeon Yi attended today's ISS Expedition 17 press conference at NASA's Johnson Space Center wearing an embroidered version of the emblem illustrated above.

According to Yi, who had hoped to design the patch herself (and continues to hope to create the patch for her flight, should it happen), the emblem was produced for the South Korean agency through a commercial contract, although don't expect to find souvenir versions for sale. At least, not yet...

Chatting with collectSPACE, Ko explained that only the two they were wearing had been made thus far and he didn't know of plans to offer it to the South Korean public. He had seen the many NASA mission patches for sale during his visit to Houston, even desiring a few for himself, and thought it would be a good idea if the same was available in his home country.

It appears that the insignia Yi So-yeon will wear as a member of the Soyuz TMA-12 prime crew has been slightly updated from the version earlier released.

Is there a larger version of the updated Korean patch?

There is a high resolution version available in PDF format from the KARI website.

That's odd; it appears as though they have reverted the link back to the old version. Fortunately, I saved the PDF from when I downloaded it a few days ago.

Here are hi-res photos by Victor Zelentsov (NASA) to look at correct Yi's name on patches and suit tag!

MEST = merger between Ministry of Science and Technology (formerly known as MOST) + Ministry of Education.

Please note: we do not have this patch for sale. We just received images from a source.
