It seems fitting to launch my new website, Space eXploration Patches, on the 51st anniversary of the first lunar landing. The mission of the site is to share the human interest stories about spaceflight and space exploration represented by mission patches in my personal collection and to showcase the artists and the artistry of the patches themselves. This initial launch focuses on Project Apollo and the uncrewed and crewed tests and spaceflights, starting with AS-103 through Apollo 11. The other Apollo missions will be launched later. True to most space projects, there will be many launches until my entire patch collection and the stories that go with them have achieved liftoff. I will post updates here and to my social media channels. |

Thank you. The patches I have collected from you (usafspace) has expanded my collection considerably. It will take time, but they will eventually be published. |

Added 30+ patches (front and back) to my website, Space eXploration Patches, mostly related to Apollo 11. On the home page, check log entries listed under Mission Control for updates. An index of all patches added since 7/20 is found on the home page. |

Added 22 mini souvenir patches related to Apollo missions (1, 7–11), including many 3-inch Cape Kennedy Medal patches, to Space eXploration Patches. Patches for a single mission are scaled relative to the largest patch for that mission to compare size. |

Added 24 patches to Space eXploration Patches website, since my last post, including 20 (Apollo 12) patches. Let me know what you think of how I am highlighting the Lion Brothers' hallmark on their Apollo 12 patch. |

Works well, very clear. I think this will be a good site. Are you looking to only have example that you personally own on it, or are you going to have scans of all the crew patches up regardless of whether you’ve yet managed to get youi’re hands on one yet? |

My site will only include patches that are in my collection. I have the full set of Lion Brothers hallmarked Apollo patches, so stay tuned, more to come.My goal is to complete the research, curation and publication of Apollo patches and stories by year end, estimating another 130 patches will be published to my website, to include many patches designed by Tim Gagnon that relate to Apollo (including commemorative mission, spirit and armed services), first lunar landing commemorative and anniversary patches, mission control, contractor and crew related support programs, astronaut recognition and memorial patches and Snoopy — the stories of human spaceflight and exploration would not be complete if it did not include the story of Snoopy. Starting in 2021, I will skip ahead in the timeline to present day and focus on the latest human spaceflight programs, including SpaceX, Boeing and others, then shift back to Skylab, Project Mercury and Project Gemini. My collection is quite extensive, so it will take 3+ years to publish all the patches and the human interest stories related to them. I am a collector of patches related to human spaceflight and space exploration, both rooted in fact and fiction. I seek patches that can assist with telling a human interest story, then I collect variations of the same patch because I admired the creative interpretation, variation and artistry. Collecting authenticate vintage patches is nice, and I am sometimes tempted because of the rarity of a patch, but I am mostly persuaded by the story behind the patch. The story is usually more important to me than the patch itself, but the patch is what creates engagement, inspires interest, and provides the visual aid that drives a narrative — the classic children's book format. Plus, I love the artwork, symbolism and imagination of designers, so beauty and meaning are important factors that contribute to my purchase decision. I bought a set of SpaceX Iridium Next patches solely because I love the artwork and shapes. I launched my site two months ago today. At present, I am currently only promoting my website on this forum, and in the last two months, there have been 347 unique visitors to my site from 23 countries. I am hoping this forum will keep me honest, so call me out on any inaccuracies. I welcome others contributing to my stories. Each patch has a share button that uniquely references that patch, so use it to email me a comment or copy the link and post it here along with a comment. I welcome collaboration. After I have published all Apollo related stories and patches, I will be promoting my site to other forums. If you have recommendations for other suitable forums, please make a recommendation. In conclusion, I have created a fictitious spaceflight of the spacecraft "Urania" to represent the mission and journey of my website. I will be working to design my first mission insignia, and will definitely share my thoughts and drafts with you all. I appreciate being a part of this community, and value the connections that I have made to make my personal passion project more fun and worthwhile. Cheers!! — Logan |

Published the four year mission plan for the Space eXploration Patches website. I updated the visual display of the Urania "virtual" spaceflight, adding callouts. Research and curation of the Apollo 13 patches is progressing. As a boy, Apollo 13 was my favorite patch, even before I was aware of the accident and heroics related to the mission, so I am looking forward to sharing the seldom known human interest stories and patches for Apollo 13. |

Hard to believe four months has passed since my last post. I just published 80 patches, including the stories and 31 patches for Apollo 13 to Space eXploration Patches website. I added a bulleted list icon to each page to display an index of the sections on the page that you can jump to. I added a page about me, and a new Resources section to includes a page about my patch collection and a collectors guide. |

The original Apollo 14 back-up patch has a gold border. If you want an image I have an original, but there is also an official NASA photo of the original patch. And I have a souvenir version of the patch made by Stewart Aviation, that's different, if you want to add that let me know. |

Thank you for the offer. I'm interested in seeing the souvenir version you have. Email me a pic.I lost an auction last year for a backup crew patch. Oh well. I am curious about when A-B Emblem started making a gold border replica.

The more patches I publish to my site, the more challenging it is to discover what pages have new patches and what patches on a page are newly added. I have addressed this challenge, plus I am displaying the total number of patches viewable on every page. The Quick Guide section has more information. |

Yesterday marked the first anniversary of the launch of my Space eXploration Patches website.More than half of all visitors were referred by collectSPACE, so I want to thank this online community for your support and valuable insight into the patches I am publishing. I have acquired some unique vintage patches that I have not seen referenced anywhere. I am looking forward to sharing them with you soon. I attended Spacefest for the first time and collected stories about various STS mission emblems from the artists and crew members - stories that are not published or well-known. These stories will be published to my website eventually, but I will post them to collectSPACE in the coming weeks. |

Work on my Space eXploration Patches website has resumed with an upgrade to the home page to improve visibility and access to content, especially newly published patches (see below). I've added a Lunar Modules and a Recovery Forces page to showcase the collection of those patches. In addition, I added a Community page, featuring Space Hipsters. I intend to add collectSPACE too.My focus for the rest of 2021 is to complete the publishing of the remaining patches and stories for Project Apollo (15-20 and related commemoratives), comprising 100+ additional patches. |
