I have printed, made and painted this 1/20 SpaceX Raptor rocket engine.

The 3D CAD file was created by Charles Lee Lesher from the Facebook Space Modelling group who generously offered it free of charge to that membership.

The final photo shows my Raptor engine next to the Accurate Models F1 engine of the same scale. That was built for my by Steve Nichols who I credit as my inspiration to start building my own models.

This is a great looking model and top notch build. Nice job, Norman.

I do wonder about models of proprietary designs of hardware that is subject to ITAR. I realize that the same level of detail can be found in photos of the real engine, but it seems like we are approaching a point of possible concern.

Thank you Steve, you were a great teacher, although I still wouldn't attempt to paint a figure.

Thank you for your compliment Robert, it means a lot.

I’m not familiar with ITAR but I would assume that any designs in the public domain that are accurate enough to let someone accurately model it in a CAD program would be exempt from any restrictions, although I can see how it might limit any commercial activity from it (i.e. selling the model).

Following my recent 3D printed build of a 1/20 SpaceX Raptor engine, the CAD designer of that model asked if I'd like to prototype his next design, the 1/20 SpaceX Merlin engine.

I enthusiastically said yes and here is the end result...

Shown alongside the Raptor for size comparison.

Thank you Steve, that means a lot.

The CAD designer of those engines has the RS-25 lined up for his next project but it's left me with a problem because even at 1/20 scale it's way too big to print on my little printer.
