Elon Musk's Roadster launch sparks sales of Hot Wheels toy Tesla

The launch of Elon Musk's Tesla Roadster on SpaceX's first Falcon Heavy rocket has fostered fresh demand for the same car now traveling through space.

No, not the electric hot rod, but rather its smaller replica: a Mattel Hot Wheels toy that was mounted on the Roadster's dashboard.

Give it a bit, it'll go back to "normal" pricing. The super version may command a premium, but not much more.

Sure, but hopefully the "SpaceX bump" will be enough to encourage Mattel to make a Starman version of the Roadster as a future mainline or "Super."

New Hot Wheels Tesla Roadster toy celebrates SpaceX-launched car

Eight months after SpaceX launched a Tesla Roadster into space, the sports car can now be found 170 million miles (274 million kilometers) away from Earth — and on local toy store shelves.

Mattel has released a new 1:64 scale model of the "1st car to orbit the Sun" as part of its Hot Wheels line of toy vehicles.

The thing I don't get is how the dummy in the spacesuit and the toy managed to stay exact where they were supposed to during the launch. I'd love to know how each were secured in place!

Every car ever made orbited/orbits the sun.

'Starman' aboard: Hot Wheels toy features SpaceX spacesuited driver

There's a Starman waiting in the sky, and now in stores, too.

Mattel has released a new Hot Wheels toy model of Elon Musk's Tesla Roadster that launched atop SpaceX's first Falcon Heavy rocket nearly one year ago. The 1:64 scale toy features a miniature "Starman" driver, distinguishing it from Mattel's earlier versions of the same electric sports car and more closely matching it to both the Roadster that is now out beyond the orbit of Mars and the Hot Wheels toy of the same that is mounted to the space vehicle's dashboard.
