Seen on eBay: Franklin Mint 1969 Apollo 12 Corvette - LE "Astrovette"

I haven't been able to find how much these originally sold for, though apparently they were released in December 2006. It looks to be a skilled reproduction...

These were first announced in November 2006, and they became available right before Christmas. Price was $120 plus shipping. They were made by the Franklin Mint in a limited edition of 427 (based on the L36 390hp 427 big block engine); however, since they were essentially commissioned by Diecast Reproductions, they were never available directly from Franklin Mint. Quality, detail, and accuracy are extremely and satisfyingly high.

The explanation offered on eBay mentions that the Apollo 12 crew were they first an only to drive matching Corvettes. While the key word there may be "matching" didn't the Apollo 15 crew have the same Corvette but one red, one white and the third blue to match the symbols on their patch? I seem to recall seeing a photograph in LIFE magazine showing them with their cars.

Yes, the Apollo 15 crew had red, white, and blue Corvettes. In fact, Dave Scott's car (the blue one) was recently being auctioned on ebay by Rathmann Chevrolet. It was in rough, unrestored condition. The reserve wasn't met.

Just purchased a Franklin Mint/Diecast Reproductions 1/24 1969 Apollo 12 "AstroVette," #38 of 427, new in box.

I probably overpaid at $495, but given that I've seen NO other example of this model for sale anywhere, in any condition, in the years I've been looking, I figured it might be now or never.

I didn't take any pics when I opened my model; just checked to make sure everything was in order. But here's a contemporary review.
