Beautiful model. Where did you get the NASA plate you have displayed behind/under engines?

I'll post up the Saturn V when I complete her. These are my first models in years. But I hope to build some kind of space exploration collection.

Very nicely done. The Monogram kit can take a bit of effort to pull off, but when done, it makes an impressive display.

Pete, that looks spectacular! One of the first things I look for in a Shuttle build is the color of the external tank, and I think you have nailed it! Everything else looks flawless as well. Beautiful piece, and I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Thanks Michael. You're right, the tank colour matters to me also. It's also not a perfect paint job which ads to the affect.

Here's a couple shots so far of my 1/6 RCS thrusters. Not sure how these will come out in the end but for a small item it looks okay so far. This is very close to full size image.

External tank color is not the only perfect thing. It has also the right look.

Very nice looking model!

Thanks TIS. Not happy yet. Have purchased RealSpace engines and upgrade front windows.

Will need new decals too.

I have a better idea of perfection watching models posted here.

Hey Pete, RCS quad is looking very nice! If you need the decal for the front face of the housing, just let me know and I'd be glad to send it to you. Keep us posted!

Thanks Michael. I have been playing with excel/word to make a label but if you got one I'd appreciate one.

Also saw the 1/5 scale in brass tonight. I have found the material difficult to get paint to stick. I used Citadel primer for now which seems to be doing the job.

Hey Peter, just sent the 1:6 housing decal to your email, so let me know if it arrives.

Not sure what you mean about a 1:5 brass piece. As for paint not sticking, you are right — paint won't stick to bare 3D printed parts. Always wash them in warm water with a degreaser (Fantastic, 409) to remove any extra material left behind from printing. Then, you must prime the parts — I've found most primers to work just fine. Then the paint should stick great. Hope that helps!

I thought I saw a 1/5 scale RCS in polished brass? Listed under precious metals material.

Love the Shuttle model! Challenger looks fantastic! Were you doing a particular mission? Because of the SRBs, it looks like it could be an early stack, STS-6,7 or 8.

OK, don't forget 51-L had those "T" and "L" shaped markings on the SRB nosecone. I use this website for a reference when I want to do a mission specific vehicle.

It is a very helpful site even if you build in plastic and not paper, like us!

Where can I find accurate images of Challenger? Searching NASA and the net does not give me much at all.

My scale windows arrived and I wand to know if the inner seal was red on Challenger like it was on Columbia?

Turns out this is an Adelaide modeler.

pkede@hotmail.com — Thanks.

Just pulled shuttle apart. Ground out extra room for scale windows. May as well keep it apart until my RealSpace SSMEs come.

Ah, man, why did you go and add the recovery section under the nose! LOL I wish you had shown this before I glued mine together, now I am kicking myself for not thinking of it! That is so cool, now you can show every aspect of the flight all the way through to splashdown! I LOVE IT!

Just remember as well, Challenger had the unusual "stair step" pattern around its crew hatch.

Sorry Ron.

Decided I could do the recovery section better.
