I was informed AMT is to reissue the 1/200 scale "Man in Space" rocket collection kit with the cardboard launch tower diorama and original box art. Release date in late October. |

The re-issue of AMT's "Man in Space" 1/200 scale rocket kit of the Saturn V, Saturn IB, Gemini-Titan, Mercury Atlas and Mercury Redstone with the cardboard Complex 39 launch tower and diorama is now out in hobby shops. $34.99. |

I am hoping Hobby Lobby will carry these so I can use one of their 40% coupons. They do carry a lot of AMT models. |

I picked up the AMT kit at Hobby Lobby. Using their online 40% coupon it came out to just under $20. This kit has Mercury Redstone, Mercury Atlas, Gemini Titan, Saturn IB, and Saturn V in 1:200 scale.While this isn't the highest quality kit I'd still like to do a decent job on it. Can anyone direct me to some online sources for paint diagrams of these rockets? Photos are okay but the only show one side and color can vary over time. I'd really like to see diagrams which show the color accurately. Thanks! |

My Airfix Saturn V kit came with a color reference. Let me know if you would like me to scan it and email it o you. |

I just picked up one of these at my local Hobby Lobby tonight. After the 40% off discount it only cost $17.99 before tax. You can't beat that price.Is there anyway I can get a copy of that pdf too? I don't know as much as I would like about the pre-shuttle era as I would like (yet!) and that would be a great help. Thanks! I just finished putting all the rockets together today, I didn't realize how big that Saturn V was going to be... very cool! Time to start sanding and cleaning them up. I'll go check that out now. |

I recently picked this kit up to do as a fun father-son activity. My son has never done a model before, and it's been at least 25 years since I've done one, so I'll have to re-learn this. I have no illusions that he and I are going to put together a masterpiece. I just want this to be a fun experience for him to start learning about model building and manned space flight at the same time.I went to a local hobby/craft store over the weekend to get some paint, but I wasn't sure what to get for the black and silver shades. Can anyone offer me some advice? In black shades, my options were: graphite metallic, flat black, semi gloss black, gloss black, and black metallic. In silvery shades, my options were flat steel, silver metallic, and flat aluminum. Again, I'm not looking for perfection here, but since I have to buy paint either way, I thought I would see what others who know what they're doing would recommend. Thanks in advance for any advice! |

Flat shades will be easier to brush paint than gloss ones. The silver shades will be a little trickier to do, but you have to start somewhere. If you have access to a hobby shop that carries Tamiya spray cans, I highly recommend those as their gloss lacquer finishes dry very quick and rock hard. So you can get the Saturns painted in a glossy white pretty easily that way and Tamiya spray silver would work nicely for the Atlas and Titan missile bodies.I also highly recommend getting some Tamiya brand masking tape. It is pretty much a must when painting straight lines, either brush or spray and works a lot better than masking tapes designed for house painting. |
