Any idea how common the "Neil Armstrong, First Man on the Moon" figurines are? Measures 20cm base included...

That is strange this model looks familiar, but in resin model kit. The weight is heavy?

These pewter models, and a smaller space shuttle-era EMU figurine, were made for and offered by the former Countdown Creations (collectSPACE offered them for sale through buySPACE at the time, circa 2006-2007).

The models were produced in England. They weren't a limited edition, though they weren't manufactured in massive batches.

They do look the same. I have the resin version, and it is a manufactured kit so there is two versions of the figure. Plus its nice to hear they weren't manufactured in massive batches as this would make it a rare kit to find.

It's indeed a rare kit, the pewter (not really sure it's that material!?) one is quite heavy and is sometimes found on eBay for US $99.00.

Here's the original (2005) description of the statue, as first offered by Countdown Creations:
First Man on the Moon Sculpture

This stunning pewter sculpture commemorates the first manned lunar landing of Apollo 11. The sculpture is 8" tall and includes a hand-polished lacquered finish.

This piece is the first of an exclusive line of pewter sculptures developed by Countdown Creations and our partners at collectSPACE.

Size: 8" tall

The statue originally sold for $59.95.

For what its worth, I helped the manufacturer (Compulsion Sculpture of Bromley England) find outlets for the pewter figure in the US.

Originally sold in the UK with the Armstrong inscription they produced a version without Neil's name for the US market; to avoid any image or naming rights issues. They sent me two of the US version by way of "commission".

I can't recall the detail as I simply found outlets interested in selling these items then passed the details to the manufacturer to thrash out the rest of the deal.

I don't think Countdown Creations/collectSPACE had exclusivity on this piece in the US but I may be wrong.

And yes, I think it was based on the resin version.

I can't say (as I don't recall) if the moonwalker was exclusive, but I know for certain that the EMU figure was only available from Countdown Creations.

I believe you are correct Robert.

All times are CT (US)
