I am posting some photos of some of my models which I have enclosed in Acrylic boxes and have introduced Model LED Flood Lights inside which I had purchased on eBay. The effect is fantastic as you can see in these photos. I have also purchased through eBay a 12V LED remote control unit in order to dim the lights to create different effects.

Great displays. Just out of interest, where do you guys go for your glass display cases and stands, or are they self builds. |

Thanks for your compliments.These acrylic boxes are ordered made to measure from either 6mm or 8mm thickness depending on size. The base is made of 19mm solid pine then grooved for the acrylic five sided box to fit in. This guarantees that your models are preserved from dust or any other accident. |

I ordered mine from a company that makes shop signs as their line of business.I am sure that you should find a company in your vicinity that does shop signs, if not maybe you can find a contact number on the Yellow pages. I am sure they will be willing to help. |

Take a look at these Micro LED lights. I just invested in 24 of these Micro LED lights to illuminate my models. They are extremely tiny but also extremely powerful. I have taken a photo near a 1 Euro coin to show the size. I will post a couple of photos later on that is when I find time to attach them to one of my models. |

Looks great Alex! My Bandai Space Shuttle Endeavour has this effect built into the display stand that came with the model. I want one of those beautiful Bandai Saturn V's soon. |

I managed to attach the new Micro LED lights to my Bandai Saturn V and I think it looks great. I have inserted four of these LED lights and there is ample light to display it properly. I am uploading some photos, a couple were taken without flash and another couple were taken with the LED lights only. The LED lights attached to the mirror base.

Thanks, yes that is what I really like with these Micro LED lights, they are unobtrusive. My old flood lights were great but unfortunately they did obstruct the models. The difference though was that the old flood lights were omitting light from the front whilst these new micro lights omit light at a 45 degree angle from the base of the model. Did you spot my scratch build 1:144 Clark Cortez RV Astro Van in the middle of the diorama? |

Norman, I stand to correct myself, the van is a heavily modified model I had found on eBay. The only parts I left original were the back doors and wheels other than everything else was modified. This included an extended front end, modified side panels,doors and windows. I fitted the roof red siren light with ventilation intakes at the rear roof end.Basically it would have been a much easier job if I had scratch build it but It was still fun modifying this van at that scale. |

Quick question, what is the dimension of the wooden base you guys have for your Bandai Saturn V so I can get an idea how big it is on its side? |

- Size of the wooden base: 19mm X 320mm X 890mm.
- Inner size of the acrylic cover: 840mm length X 260mm width X 240mm height
- Thickness of acrylic: 6mm

Thanks for the suggestion. Anyone know where I can buy a fancy wood display base for a model?I would like to get one at the local store or online. Maybe have one with a mirror on the top of the base. No display case required since it will go into my larger display cabinet. Any suggestions? |

Try a local trophy shop. A few do custom display bases as well or can at least point you in the proper direction if they can't do it. Granted it might be pricey, but if you've already invested in a Bandai Saturn, you've got the budget to commission a display base to be made. |

Another one of my models the Danbury Mint Apollo 13 LM and CM lit up with micro LED lights. I included two of the Corvettes 1:64 by Greenlight and the Ford Mustang.

This is my favorite model out of my collection, the Accurate Model Saturn V F1 engine in 1:20 scale from Custom Replicas. This model was built by my friend and Master builder Pascal. This fine build is in Silver plated and has also a copper plated cradle.The detail that Pascal went into in finishing this model makes this model a truly one of a kind. I added six micro LED lights to enhance the brilliance of the silver and copper. I also added a 1:20 scale bicycle and figure to give it real life proportions. I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I enjoy this model.

Alex, I'll have you know that your posts here inspired me to buy a couple of the Greenlight "Ken's" gold Corvettes on eBay today (I already had the Danbury Mint Apollo 13 and the Greenlight Corvette/Mustang set.)Just for fun, I don't suppose anyone knows whether or not Ken Mattingly actually owned a gold Stingray then? As mentioned in another thread, Jim Lovell said his Corvette was blue, not red. Also, that F-1 model is amazing. Just beautiful. |

Beautiful!What is your source for the micro LED's? How many mm are they across? I'm putting some finishing touches on wiring up 18 LED's from 2mm to 10mm to light the inside of the 2001 Pod including the four exterior headlights. I will also be using them as a light source for the fiber optics to light some "dashboard lights". |

Thanks to all for the nice comments. These LED's enhance the beauty off these models. These LED lights come all the way from Australia. They are used for illuminating number plates on motor bikes. The size is micro, the thread is just 4mm across and are very bright. |

I've ordered and used 3mm LED's from Hong Kong, Thailand and China via ebay and they're dirt cheap. Never thought of using them on light poles, though. I'm putting 18 of them inside the model I'm currently working on and might try the newer LED tape as some background lighting. The tape eliminates a LOT of wiring. Never saw an Australian source, though. Very interesting original use for them, though. I'd like to find the brightness of a mag-lights. They say they're out there [not that I've looked all that hard, mind you]. But the ones from Asia are cheap, arrive fairly quickly, and there's a great choice on ebay. |

I just looked at the link. Didn't realize that they're on eBay, too. Man, they're expensive, but I see what you get for your money. You're really paying for the hardware. I wonder if there's a way to just get the LED? |

Yes they are not cheap but if you plan to buy a few I would suggest to ask for a discount, he is a very reasonable person. They will make all the difference in your display. There's no hardware just a very bright micro LED light with fitting and wire but high tech. |
