L.A. Daily News (Aug. 3, 2004): Astronauts to bobble
Joining the likes of Willie Mays, Dale Earnhardt and the Rolling Stones, NASA test pilots and astronauts Pete Knight and Gordon Fullerton have become bobblehead dolls.

Two thousand flight-suited figurines with oversize spring-mounted heads bearing the pilots' facial features — 1,000 each for the late state lawmaker Knight, who entered politics after his aviation career, and Fullerton — were commissioned by the Lancaster JetHawks and will be given away at an Aug. 13 game saluting the Antelope Valley aerospace industry.

From the JetHawks:
Friday, August 19 vs. Bakersfield Blaze 7:00

For the second season in a row, the JetHawks are honoring one of the industries that makes this valley great, the Aerospace Industry. The night will feature many spectacular events including a fireworks show following the game and a visit from former astronaut and Antelope Valley local, Vance Brand.

Mr. Brand has a fantastic history of space travel. He was one of the original 19 pilot astronauts selected by NASA in April, 1966. His first space flight was as the Apollo command module pilot on the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project mission. This flight resulted in the historic meeting in space between American astronauts and Soviet cosmonauts. This momentous event is one of the top highlights in the history of space exploration.

Mr. Brand also was the commander of the Columbia Space Shuttle twice and the Challenger Space Shuttle once during his flight career with NASA. He was inducted into the International Aerospace Hall of Fame in 2001. The first 1,000 fans through the gate will receive a bobble head dressed as an astronaut, holding the Apollo-Soyuz and a Space Shuttle.

Edwards Federal Credit Union is the proud sponsor of Aerospace Appreciation Night, the Bobble Head, and the Post Game Fireworks Show. Also sponsored by The AV Press and 103.1 FM KTPI Country. Every Friday is Family Fun Night. For $25 a family can get four tickets to the game, four hot dogs, four non-alcoholic beverages, a program, and two fun zone credits. Ameci's is the proud sponsor of Friday Family Fun Night.

Lancaster JetHawks release:
JetHawks to Honor Buzz Aldrin on Aerospace Appreciation Night

The Lancaster JetHawks are continuing its prized tradition of honoring the local aerospace industry by bringing one of the true legends of the space program to Lancaster. Dr. Buzz Aldrin, one of the first two men to walk on the moon, will be the honoree at the JetHawks fourth annual "Aerospace Appreciation Night". The event will be held at the JetHawks final Saturday home game of the 2007 regular season, August 25.

"Aerospace Appreciation Night" is annually one of the most highly anticipated events of the season at Clear Channel Stadium and in the Antelope Valley community. One of the unique aspects of this special celebration is the series of bobblehead dolls that have been created as a giveaway items for fans. The first 1,000 fans in attendance on August 25 will receive a free Dr. Buzz Aldrin bobblehead doll, presented by Edwards Federal Credit Union. The ceramic doll will feature Dr. Aldrin wearing the space suit he wore during the moon landing in 1969. Since the event's inception in 2004, honorees of the JetHawks Aerospace Appreciation event have included General Chuck Yeager, Col. William J. "Pete" Knight, Gordon Fullerton, and Vance Brand.

Dr. Aldrin is scheduled to visit Clear Channel Stadium to be in attendance at the JetHawks game and participate in a pre-game ceremony to honor the aerospace pioneer. In addition, a special video-board video presentation detailing highlights of his illustrious career will be played during the pre-game ceremonies. Following the contest between the JetHawks and the Stockton Ports, there will be a post-game fireworks spectacular.

"It is an honor to be able to bring such a distinguished American hero to Lancaster as part of our fourth annual Aerospace Appreciation Night," says JetHawks General Manager Brad Seymour. "Those of us in the Antelope Valley owe a lot to the entire aerospace industry and celebrating that field with an event such as this one is a wonderful thing for our fans and our entire community. We are proud to not only pay tribute to the incredible history of this community, but also create an educational experience for fans in attendance during this game."

Dr. Aldrin became a household name on July 20, 1969 when he and Neil Armstrong became the first two human beings ever to walk on the moon. Among his other distinguished positions, Dr. Aldrin spent time in the Antelope Valley as the Commander of the Test Flight School at NASA Dryden, located at Edwards Air Force Base. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and has worked tirelessly to advance the future of space exploration through his business ventures and his non-profit organization.

Group packages to attend this popular event are on sale now. Individual game tickets will go on sale to the general public on Saturday, March 24. The full calendar of promotional events and giveaways for the JetHawks 2007 schedule will be released on the team website March 5.

Don't miss the exciting 12th season of JetHawks baseball in Lancaster and the club's first as the Class A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. The 2007 regular season opens on April 5 and ticket packages starting at only $50 are available now. 'Nod' of approval: JetHawks baseball team honoring astronaut with bobblehead

Astronaut Jerry Ross, who shares the world record for the most missions into outer space, has been decorated with military and NASA medals, enshrined into a hall of fame and awarded an honorary doctorate. But the accolade he is set to receive Sunday (August 9) may be a nod above them all.

For Ross is about to be immortalized as a bobblehead.

"I am thrilled about it," Ross told collectSPACE. "I never had a bobblehead before."

That looks nothing like Fred Haise. Odd as the others offer reasonable resemblances but that one almost makes me wonder if they got the wrong photo out of file.
