RealSpace Models 1:48 Apollo Command and Service Module (CSM) will be released on June 30, 2004. Finally, an accurate kit of the Block II flight version of the Apollo Command/Service Module. This resin and photoetch kit includes a detailed interior, photoetched radiators and High Gain Antenna and Decals. |

I received my CSM model this week. Glenn truly turned out a work of art and filled a needed void in the modeling community. For those who may be thinking about buying this model, remember, the parts are all made of unforgiving plastic resin and photo-etched brass. A lot of sanding, puttying and reshaping will be needed. This is not a "insert flange A into hole B" type of model. However, the final product will be a beautiful, albeit extremely fragile, 1/48 Block II Apollo CSM. |

Agreed, RealSpace Models newest kit — the 1/48th scale Apollo CSM is an excellent piece of work. It was a long wait, but it was well worth it. A couple things of note, in my kit the fit of the aft heat sheild and top bulkhead into the cylindrical body are loose. One will need to back-up the joint with a styrene shoulder and fill the gaps. Also, the painting guides for the smallest of details are missing. I know the Space In Miniature will have this covered in their book #6. All in all, a very nice kit. Now I can faithfully reproduce an Apollo 11 docking of the RealSpace CSM and a re-worked Monogram LM. |

Epoxy putty does the job perfectly.

Is RealSpace Models 1/48 Apollo CSM still in production? It is not possible to backorder this item on the RealSpace Models website? |

I just checked their website, and I can confirm that it is not possible to backorder the 1/48 CSM. I've sent off an email to Glenn Johnson, and hopefully will get a response soon. |

Glenn does not have any photoetch for the kit at present and until he does the kit will not be available. He orders a specific number of sets of the photoetch components and when they are all gone the kit goes out of production for short periods of time. |

I may have an extra complete RealSpace CSM kit. Let me know if you're interested and I'll check. |

I believe Realspace can still produce the kit, but demand for it has likely dropped now that Dragon has an injection molded CSM kit available for sale. |

I would think that the RealSpace kits detail is more accurate than the Dragon kit. Is my assumption correct? |

I've never seen the Dragon kit, but Glenn's kits are incredibly detailed and incredibly accurate (and are for the skilled scale modeler, as resin is an unforgiving medium).I know that Glenn held up the original release for months because he wasn't happy with the way the docking probe looked. Once he was happy with the final product, only then did he release it. Anyone else would have thought it was minor and released it as-is. Not Glenn. |
