This one, at 1:144, looks neat, no? 1/144 Bell X-1 "Sonic Breaker" 1+1Dragon is offering a fine 1/144 scale model of the Bell X-1 as part of its aircraft collection. In fact, the new set features two complete X-1 aircraft models. The first is a standard replica of this supersonic craft, while the second has a transparent fuselage that shows off the "innards" of the unique X-1. Both fully built-up and finely painted models are masterfully recreated in miniature. They also come with a sleek display stand made of metal that allows both models to be displayed "flying" together. Also see: Flying Mule. |

I've been waiting on a Bell X-1 diecast for years. I wish it was 1/72 scale, but this model looks very cool. |

Thanks for the heads up. I just added it to my collection. Looking forward to see it when it gets released. It definitely would be nice in 1/72nd. Maybe one day. |

One is planned: DM-51022 North American X-15A. Unfortunately it's also at 1:144, which is really, really small. |

Yeah, what's up with the tiny scale? My guess is that at 1:72, the model would be about 8.5 inches, so not ridiculously huge. |

At 1:144, the X-15 will be 11cm (4.33 inches) long by 4.5cm (1.77 inch)wide, based upon Corgi's Aviation Archive AA33504 NB-52B with X-15 Reasearch Aircraft model. |

And there's another X-1 model coming out.I'm not sure what's the difference with the original one... |

I have the X-1 set on preorder from Flying Mule, and they say they should have it the beginning of next week.I for one like the 1/144 X-planes. The X-1 and X-15 that Corgi includes with their B-29 and NB-52 motherships are pretty basic, so I'll replace them with the Dragon models. Three X-15s would be great: the X-15 #1 rollout version with XLR-11 engines, a black X-15 (short or long fuselage), and the white ablative coated X-15A-2 with external fuel tanks. |

Received today, May 31.Although I love small models, this one is indeed very small (6.5 by 6 cm; 2.56 in. x 2.36 in.), almost miniature. It's quite an accomplishment to have managed to produce a see-through model at such a small scale but since it's so small it makes you wonder why Dragon didn't produce the X-1, and the soon-to-be-released X-15, at a 1:72 scale, like their X-37 models. The see-through model would look much better at a larger scale. As for the model itself, well, it's all plastic. You can display the X-1 in landing mode or in inflight-mode but I don't think I would want to mess with the landing gear on such a fragile model (and the pieces are so small- how would you do it anyway?). The display stand has a sticker describing the model. I still don't know why this is not standard on all Dragon models. At $29, I have mixed feelings about it. It's not that bad but the X-1 deserves a larger scale (at least 1:72) and so does the X-15. Even though you do have two models, it would have been better to have only one (see-through or not) at a larger scale so as to have consistency between the different X-planes models. It also makes you wonder why Dragon is planning a "last flight" model. As for the upcoming X-15, I won't buy it. It's too small. And I already have one with the NB-52. |

I have to agree, if these were 1/72 to fit with the other X-Planes like the X-37, I would would buy them in a second. 1/144 is just too small for my taste. Also, Dragon's 'last flight' X-1 is marked incorrectly since that flight was made for the movie 'Jet Pilot' and the X-1 carried no markings since it was portraying the soviet parasite fighter. |

The spine and tail on the plane was white for its last flight and it can be seen in the image of the model. I guess it would have been the "last flight" it did to conduct research for NACA and the USAF as opposed to its movie star role. |

Compare the Bell X-1 to Dragon Warbirds Model #56263 SR-71A Blackbird (1:400). The SR-71A is similar in size (this one too deserves a much bigger scale) but contrary to the X-1 it is in metal (except for the vertical stabilizers)! Go figure. |

I saw that, I'm reluctant to pay that kind of money for a very small PLASTIC set of X-1's. I am looking forward to the 1/144th X-15 however. Still debating on the SR-71, as you said, it deserves a bigger scale. |

Well, for (almost) a third of the price of the SR-71 Dragon Model (mind you!), you have the Model Power MP-5389 at 1:200 which is neat eventhough you can only display the model in in-flight mode. A couple of models exist or planned at 1:72 but the price tag is huge. |

Chris, does the sticker on the base of your X-1 set actually say, "First Supersonic Aircraft in Mankind?" Because that makes me think of "All Your Base Are Belong to Us." Seriously, that model is just too dang small. Same with Dragon's SR-71. I'll probably buy their 1:144 X-15, though. I have the Corgi X-15 in the same scale (both on its own and with the NB-52), but the glossy finish is wrong and the model itself is a mishmash of markings and features. The Model Power 1:200 SR-71 is a nice little piece, especially for the price, but it has one obvious defect: The vertical stabilizers are, well, almost vertical...not canted far enough as on the real thing. When I got mine, I very carefully bent them slightly inward. |

It does. Are you referring to a bad translation? I'm not familiar with AYBABU (even after Wikipedia search!). |

All your base are belong to us I'll take tired Internet memes for $1,000, Alex. And if Robert smacks me for this, I won't blame him. Really though... how can a company as large as Dragon, with longtime worldwide distribution, release something with such a clumsy English label? As a collector of the Dragon Space series, I'd have agreed with you that labeled bases would be nice, but if they can't competently translate simple phrases to English, maybe they're better off leaving them blank. |
