First line-up of INTER-CULTURE's high-end 3D-printer "My Scale Model" series. There are two type of products. One is non-paint "white" model and the other is painted "color" model. Buy before end of 2010, then come with free acrylic display case. |

Price is listed as 240,000 - 270,000 yen - that's $2,800 to $3,200 (or more than one Bill Anders autograph!). And that's for the 'unpainted' version. |

Pffff that is a lot of money... I don't understand this, that Saturn V looks for me more production cost ...and that cost plus minus 550 dollars, a big difference. |

The Saturn V was mass produced by Bandai, keeping individual unit costs down. Inter-Culture is "printing" the MLP on-demand, one at a time. |

They used the 3D printer to create an injection mold? That is what I mean with the production cost or is it made out one piece material? But as always very nice beautiful things are expensive. |

You order through their website... (Bandai Saturn V sold separately). quote: Originally posted by apolloprojeckt: They used the 3D printer to create an injection mold?
As best as I can discern from their website, the entire model is produced as several stackable pieces directly out of the 3D printer. If you notice, their primary business seems to be selling the 3D printing machines themselves. |

The reason it's so expensive is because each model is "printed" on a 3D machine similar to the Polyjet. As a model maker, I'd have the master parts made using a similar Rapid Prototyping process, then make molds then urethane castings that could be sold as finished assembled models, or as kits with most of the parts cast in color. The investment for the RP parts, molds and castings for this model would be about $6,000 and that's a low estimate. The molds are good for casting 50 parts so the cost per set in materials alone would be $120. Using our standard business model that puts the retail price at 5x the cost of materials, you'd get a kit price of $600. Selling 50 kits at $600 would be difficult although LCM sold 20 kits at $750, so it might be possible. |

I just recently got the Interculture Mobile Launcher and I can say it's a very nicely detailed tower and fits the Bandai Saturn V nicely. It needs some tweaking on the paint details but overall it's the best LUT I've seen with a lot of detail. It's very expensive but with the Saturn V on it, it's a very nice display. |

It looks fantastic, the detail is top notch. It is amazing what you can do with today's technology. I wish they can produce a larger quantity to lower the price. I would love to include it to my Bandai Saturn V but at that price? |

In order to display the shuttle on there, what extra would you need?I see it says you can choose the plate for the shuttle to display. What is missing though for a shuttle display and are there any kits in 1/144 with those bits in? On edit: I have to say its pretty awesome. Pricey, but awesome none the less. Having said that compared to the tower, it's a bargain... |

Anyone know if the launch tower and crawler and everything else in these pictures from Bandai are the Inter-Culture models? |

Yes the models are Bandai and the crawler and LUT are from Inter-Culture, I have the LUT already and am awaiting the crawler. The detail on the models are amazing and they are made to fit the Bandai Saturn V and shuttle. |

Perfect, so, on Inter-Culture's website when it gives the details for the plate for the crawler, they mean the launch platform like the one in that photo.Next question, does anyone want to do a group buy? |

They make a plate to attach the crawler to the LUT deck bottom and they are also developing a different deck for the Bandai shuttle. |

What would be the differences, as it looks like they nailed it in those pictures from the Bandai site. |

The launcher deck for the shuttle has different piping and equipment than the launcher deck for the Saturn V. Also the launcher deck for the shuttle will have the footpads that Inter-Culture didn't include on the Saturn V deck. |

Ok, thanks. So basically like the one in this picture. Can't wait to see the finished article. Like I said earlier, anyone fancy a group buy to bring the costs down? |
