Historic Space Systems announces the development of a Gemini Control Panel Simulator as a company project. The simulator will duplicate the look, function and feel of the Gemini XII spacecraft control panel, creating a new way of experiencing space history.

The simulator will integrate simulation software, immersing the user into the experience. Over time additional cockpit features will be joined with the control panel, further enhancing the adventure.

When complete the Gemini Control Panel Simulator will be suitable as a museum exhibit, movie prop, trade show attraction, and any other venue where fine craftsmanship and historical accuracy are valued.

Can we retro-install actual artifact components as they become available?

Thank you for the compliments.

Scott, if we find Gemini artifacts I can certainly try.

I'm impressed by the level of the detail — even duplicating the paint scratches on the switch guards (rails)!

Regarding paint scratches, I want it to look as it would ready for flight.

One of the interesting things was discovering a few mistakes on the actual panel. The most significant was the incorrect assembly of a light dimmer on the COMP light (on the pedestal panel to the left of the COMPUTER knob). This dimmer was added as a result of complaints from Jim McDivitt on Gemini IV that the COMP light, which was on much of the time, was bright enough to keep him awake during his sleep period. The incorrectly assembled dimmer would still work, but a Teflon washer meant to make the parts rotate smoothly was put at the bottom, not between the two polarizing sheets as designed. For these photos I assembled it as on Gemini XII. Later I will re-assemble it correctly (which will make it look a little different).

Here is a look at the Right Hand Main Instrument Panel, and the Left Hand Main Instrument Panel for the Gemini control panel simulator. Still lots of work to do.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the launch of Gemini 12, here is an update on the control panel simulator.

The Pilot's panel now has the computer Manual Data Readout Unit (lower center), the staggered power monitor gauge cluster (lower left), and other details.

The Command Pilot's panel now has a few gauges as well as an actual Accutron clock. The status lights have also been added.

Additional progress includes wiring of most of the controls and displays of the upper and lower center panels. All of the gauges have also been added to the upper center panel.

Thanks for the compliments. I truly wish it had all been done by the 50th anniversary. But also I'm glad it is this far along.

Jim Lovell and Buzz Aldrin were the last people to view this sight as they prepared for their Gemini XII re-entry, and the close of the Gemini Program, 50 years ago today (presented here on the control panel simulator).
