Dragon Models has announced its 1:72 Apollo 16 "Lunar Highlands Exploration" model with command/service module, lunar module, lunar rover and astronauts. |

Hopefully, if they do an Apollo 17 version, they'll include a replacement wheel cover made of checklists for the LRV and some orange lunar soil.  |

Yes, the communication dish on the LRV is too big like the camera on the opposite side. I hope that Dragon build this as a kit so we can make improvements ourselves. |

Also, given that the LRV (accurately scaled) will be less than 2" long, I'm already having flashbacks of connecting the 1:72 Gemini spacecraft and spacewalker... intricate parts in a small scale.Keep in mind, though, that the "preview" images we've seen of models in this series have often differed in detail from the eventual releases. I have no use for a kit personally, so I'm hoping the actual model that comes to market will be more refined. |

Perhaps one segment of the Service Module could be replaceable - and they would supply a SIM bay for the J missions and a post-explosion bay for Apollo 13?Does anyone know if the segments for the two items above were the same on the SM? |

Looks promising. I personally would have like it to have been Apollo 15 considering that was the mission that first used the rover. Has anyone heard when it will be available to purchase? |

The rover's (hopefully) quibbles aside, I'm pleased that the SIM bay is there as well as is the LEM experiments package. (Does it come with the crinkled orange foil?  This one I'll definitely be buying. |

I am concerned that Dragon may have substituted the Apollo 15 CSM, without the open SIM bay, for the CSM that appeared in the original Apollo 16 promo photo. Take a look at the current product photo on the Dragon USA website. |

The Apollo 17 model is a kit instead of the diecast model. In the info sheet that Dragon released on this kit the SIM bay is open and includes detail. |

This model set should be shipping to dealers this week. Every time I look at the latest photo of this model on Dragon USA's website I hope that this is not the actual model that will ship. The CSM represented has a closed SIM Bay and the commander driving the LRV does not have red stripes painted on his suit. Time will tell. |

Yes, on the Dragon USA site, it looks like they are just reusing the Apollo 15 CSM. |

Now in stock at Flying Mule, no new pictures up yet, REALLY want to know if the SIM bay is open. I pre-ordered this in May... looking foward to the rover and crossing my fingers for the SIM bay... should know really soon. |

The SIM Bay IS NOT open or removable. The box art is incorrect. Flying Mule said that the CSM is the Apollo 15 CSM and not the Open Bay SIM included with the box art.  Photos will be posted tonight on the Flying Mule website. |

Photos are posted now on Flying Mule's website.The LRV looks as though it was only painted white with orange fenders! The other problem is that the commander's A7LB suit does not include the "red stripes" on the helmet or arms. The artwork on the package also depicts this incorrectly. |

The reason that I find this disappointing is because my reference for the LRV is the original product photo on the Dragon Apollo 16 product release announcement. The detail is more refined than the actual product release. |

I just received mine... actually the LRV is very detailed and looks pretty dang cool, in my opinion. It is not all white, has white and gray and as detailed as the original picture shows.As for the commander not having a red stripe, a red fine tip sharpie will fix that in a half a second... no biggie. Still not happy that the SIM bay is not open, but oh well, I am over it. All in all I am pleased. |

I just received the set as well, and agree on the LRV; it is near identical to how it is depicted on the box, and very nicely detailed given its very small size.The service module I received does not have an open SIM bay, but the photo on the box is not a graphic; it is an actual model image. I also have heard that the Apollo 17 kit does indeed have the parts for a detailed SIM bay. I have written my contact at Dragon, who is involved in the design and production of these models, to inquire what happened. |

It does. In fact it appears to have duplicate parts for a 'second' SIM bay. I haven't looked closely at the instructions to try to determine why the extra bay parts are in the 17 kit. |

The instructions show to use one of the SIM bays, the complete one. The second one that is smaller is shown as not to be use. It makes me wonder if this is for another release, but the layout of the two bays seams identical. There are a lot of extra parts in the kit, and it appears you could model an in flight LM with all the extra parts. |

The LRV I am comparing the paint scheme to is the photo on the Flying Mule website. I am happy to hear that the LRV looks good. I am waiting for my local hobby shop to receive the Apollo 16 model next week. |
