In my post selling my Grumman Lunar Module Contractor Model, several members asked for details on the smaller prototype model shown in one of the pictures. The first picture shows a 1964 Beacon News (Jupiter-Tequesta, Florida) article about my grandfather giving a speech at the Chamber of Commerce: a verbal "Trip To The Moon" as the article states. He is holding the smaller "Proposed Lunar Excursion Module". My grandfather was Vice Admiral E. W. Clexton, USN, a 1924 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, who held an aeronautical engineering degree from MIT. - One of the first Navy Aeronautical Engineering Duty Officers (AEDOs)
- Served as Director of the Naval Budget from June 1960 to 1963
- Former Vice President of Grumman Aircraft and later a consultant to that firm.
Made by Lester Associates, Inc., Thornwood, NY, the model is approximately 3.25" high. The base alone is 1" with a diameter of 3.75." The cork attached to the bottom of the base is 1/8".

Please note that this model is not posted for sale. I received quite a few questions about it, so I posted the details for model builders and collectors. This model has a lot of sentimental value to me since my grandfather was part of the team that designed the original lunar module. The newspaper article of him holding it gives it even more of a connection for me.Of course, everything always has a price and mine would be $2500. Hopefully this will answer all the questions on whether or not I am willing to sell this. |
