I am trying to replace some broken F-1 engines on my 1/96 Saturn V. Revell USA gave me a flat — we don't currently make this model, sorry, we don't have the part. I also e-mailed Revell Germany. They e-mailed me a PDF file of the instructions and asked me to circle the broken parts. I wonder if I'll have better luck? Wouldn't that be something if the replacement part came all of the way from Germany.

Maybe with it being out of stock, I should say that all of the parts need replacing.

Have you considered RealSpace Models' F-1 Engines?

Seconded on the recommendation for the replacement F-1s from RealSpace. Frankly, I'm surprised they don't cost more than they do, considering how gorgeous they are.

Believe it or not, after both Revell US and Revell Germany both said they don't have the parts, the parts for five F-1 engines arrived in today's mail from Illinois. That was a pleasant surprise. It was also just as surprising to see them cast in white styrene instead of gray.

So, I wonder where the molds actually exist since it's currently "out of production"?

More than likely, somebody found the parts in storage backlog. Many years ago, I asked for a replacement decal sheet for a LONG out of production stock car model and after a few weeks, the decal sheet showed up in the mail. Revell does try to help when they can, but it depends on a lot of things. The other tricky bit is many modelers were abusing the replacement policy in the 1990s by requesting parts when they didn't really need any and that resulted in the replacement policy being curtailed a bit for awhile. Today, at least the harsher stance seems to have relaxed a little bit.

In all honesty, if I had the talent, I'd love to cast these two sprues in RTV and then make resin versions. Not that I'd ever sell them, but there is always a need for these particular parts. It might be nice to cast the F1 engine bell itself as one piece without a seam, too.

All times are CT (US)
