I stumbled across a vintage Gemini Capsule store display that was made by Revell. This is one of the best displays that I have seen! |

I brought this model to school with me in 5th grade in 1966, and my teacher bought it from me for $5.00! That was a lot of money to me back then... and my dad was furious that I had sold the model he helped me build. |

Phillip, you are correct. It is roughly about one foot long when assembled. I have one that I completely with the Real Space Models upgrades. Really happy how it came out. In my opinion this is one of the best space related models that Revell issued. |

I've got a couple of the reissued Revell Gemini kits in my stash. Sure one needs to do some work to the kit to make it fully accurate, but all things considered it is probably the best real space subject Revell ever did and it just has a great fun factor aspect to it with the opening doors, the two astronauts and the detachable instrument section.As such, I am probably going to build one stock for the nostalgia and the second one accurized with the bits provided by Realspace Models. |

This is an example of one of the models that were pre-assembled by Revell specifically for store displays. The service and retro modules (and many of their interior pieces) were molded in the medium-tan color seen in the interior of the service module of this model, rather than the grey plastic in the unassembled kits. They are rare. |

Remember - there's the 1993 version which is worth about $65 and the 2000 version which is worth less.
Matt Irvine's book is wonderful for finding out when the various versions were released.
I still can't believe that I have the first issue of the 1/32nd Monogram CSM - the only model to this day with the correct Block 2 configuration. Still one of my favorite models of all time to build. I keep that one in the box for posterity. I'll build the newer ones first. |

I can empathize with that as I have an original Monogram issue Saturn V in my stash. It was shrinkwrapped at one time, but I cracked that open to keep it from crushing the box. The box art itself is a work of art with its vibrant 1960s colors with an art style that almost reminds me of the first issue box art for the AMT Star Trek USS Enterprise model. |

I have a 1/24th Revell "History makers" limited production series Gemini space capsule kit c.1983. It is Gemini 4 themed and still sealed up. Would you build it or keep it as an investment? |

The spacewalking astronaut in the OP looks about twice the correct size. Or does this explain why Ed had so much trouble closing the hatch.  |

I would build it. Reason being is the investment potential of plastic is so dodgey and the SSP reissues from a few years ago altered the collectibility. Plus, you can't guarantee the value of an item until you sell it, then you no longer have it.As such, collect it because you like it, not because it might be worth something. |

The 1982 release was the second release AFTER the original 1965 release which is all but impossible to find. The 1993 release is worth about $65, so do the math if it's sealed. I'd hold on to it or let it go for no less than $100. |

If I'm not mistaken, the "Ed White" 1/6 space walking figure is the same mold that they used for McCandless in "Astronaut with MMU".
I'd have to go look that one up.

I would build the less expensive 2000 re-release of the Gemini and hold onto the 1982 version. Those molds are 45 years old at this point and will lose the detail. The 1993 version is getting hard enough to find. Your model is even harder to find. Buy one or two 2000 versions, have fun building them and don't touch the 1982 version for a bit. Just a feeling.And if you need the 2000 version, I know someone who'll give you a good deal. Oh, and if you do the 2000 version, make sure you buy the "correction" kit from RealSpaceModels.com to correct all of the mistakes [and there are plenty] as the molds were made from the prototype that still had the landing skids instead of a parachute - when it was supposed to land on land instead of the water. It also fixes the scalloping in front of the doors and a bunch of other stuff. Well worth the investment - and nothing is more fun than playing with an unforgiving medium like resin. |
