This is my second attempt to build the Dragon 1/72 Apollo CSM.

The first time, I felt I could improve on it a lot, not least because the Dragon model appeared to have a Block I command module on a Block II service module. I noticed that the Museum of Flight in Seattle displays a Block I, and the lip of the hatch frame is much more pronounced than flight images.

So I sanded the lip right down, and filled the depression with superglue. I'll have to work on etching the hatch gap, but the overall effect is closer to what I wanted. Additional details were supplied by New Ware photo-etched parts.

One tool I'm really glad I had was a hand held micro-drill, so I could drill the nozzles on the CM, and fix the struts on the reverse side of the part that seems to have a fuel cylinder moulded on the wrong side!

Also I thought that the hand ring at the very top shouldn't have been glued flush, and is not red as in the ready-made models. I use bare metal foil, as I wasn't confident with chrome spray, but will probably use it on a 1/48 Dragon CSM. The seams look very visible in the picture, but the reflections really hide them so they aren't noticeable at all.

Nice work. Is the base supposed to represent something?

Many thanks for the nice comments. This definitely isn't the last attempt, each time I'm getting better at it.

garymilgrom: didn't catch the question?
