I have a rather nice collection of space themed Lionel trains, from the late 50's early 60's and all are in pretty good shape: Rocket Launchers, Space Capsule cars, Missile Cars and the like.

I just found a Grumman tractor/trailer on a Long Island flat car that just sold on ebay for a substantial price. I've got one of these in my collection, mint condition, unopened box that I've had for years, paid less than $100 for it. I should have bought two.

Anyone else collect these kinds of 'toys'?

Though I do not collect them, a good friend of mine is very much into model trains (in particular the Z-scale) and his interest has led me on more than one occasion to consider what it might take to create a train layout that recreate in miniature the scene of the SRBs arriving at KSC, complete with VAB and pad(s) in the distance. That led to brief investigations if Lionel had ever issued a set that had the SRB transport, sadly to no avail. (I would be delighted to be wrong.)

While on the subject of trains, when I worked for the National Space Society, we were invited to exhibit at the HORDE concert by Neil Young. Young is/was part owner of Lionel and had designed a special edition NSS engine that would run on the large track layout at the concert. Later, we received that engine at our offices but as to what happened to it, I have no idea...
