I was surprised while watching coverage of today's (April 18) spacewalk conducted by cosmonauts Oleg Artemyev and Denis Matveev to see what appears to be the flag of the former Soviet Union displayed inside the airlock aboard the Poisk mini-research module at the International Space Station.

Given what looks to be a Soyuz MS-21 crew patch nearby, I am wondering if this is a new addition and what to make of it if it is?

I remember being shocked and somewhat bemused by the nationalism and anti-Americanism of the Russian movie "Salyut 7" when it came out in 2017. It is amazing what a constant barrage of pro-Soviet propaganda must be doing to the mindset of the Russian people.

Various of the tanks and armored personnel carriers that have invaded the Ukraine since 2/24/22 have been flying the flag of the USSR. The current Russian national anthem is the old USSR national anthem.

Under Putin, Stalin has been rehabilitated, and is now considered a great leader.

Interestingly/sadly enough, the discovery of the Bucha and surrounding areas murders occurred in the same month, and almost exactly 80 years after, the Germans discovered the Katyn forest massacre in April 1943. The massacre was committed by the NKVD against prisoner of war Polish officers, because they had the temerity to fight against the USSR.

All times are CT (US)
