Gus Grissom and John Young on the Gemini 3 mission wore G3-C (Gemini) suits. And as I understand it, the Gemini G4-C suits were developed to provide an EVA capacity for the astronauts and were first worn on the Gemini 4 mission which was the flight of course, that featured the first American spacewalk. Both Jim McDivitt's and Ed White's suits were classified as G4-C suits. However, there was a considerable difference between the Command Pilot's (non-EVA) suit and the Pilot's (EVA) suit in the G4-C series. What difference if any was there between the G3-C Command Pilot's suit and the G4-C Command Pilot's suit? |

Easier to google "Gemini space suit" than post the question. Wikipedia: Gemini space suit. The G4C suit was identical to the G3C suit, but came in two different styles. Both had additional layers of Mylar insulation for temperature control (250 °F (121 °C) in direct sunlight and −250 °F (−157 °C) in shadow), but the commander's suit retained the removable boots, while the pilot's version had integrated boots and a detachable sun visor which clipped onto the helmet. | |
