Topic: Skylab ASMU: Help configuring support stand?

The museum collection includes two Skylab ASMUs (Automatically Stabilized Maneuvering Units), one on loan to Space Center Houston (#1) and one that will be featured in our EVA 50th anniversary exhibit. This unit (#4) is stored on a stand that appears to rotate and serve as a charging station.  Does anyone know how this stand might work? If it's possible to flip the unit upside down on the stand, that would mean we could use the stand in the display and not create a new one. Any help on determining how this works would be really appreciated. ------------------

Do you have a full-res version of the photo that we could look at? It appears to have repurposed a Block I Rotational Controller and TTCA for the left and right hands… I have both of those controllers here in DFJ museum, so they are great to see in this context. |

Do we know the purpose of this stand? Was it for shipping (looks too complicated for that, yet it has shock mounts), for zero-G flight training, or for flight? Is a part number visible anywhere?Can we access a higher resolution image? Thanks. ------------------

Yes, it can support itself upside down on the stand. |

Let me have our conservation staff capture a better photograph, and some detailed ones of the base especially. I'll get them posted soon. There was a box of spare parts with the crate as well, but I don't have any documentation on how the stand operates or how to flip the unit upright. |
