Does anyone have any examples or suggestions on the best way to display (e.g. flat or 3D?) an Apollo Velcro Watch Strap - 22.5" Long. Straps this long were designed to be worn when suited. Examples from museums or private collections would be great. This strap does not have a metal mirror attached to it but has a metal fastener at one end.

Be nice if I had the flown watch to go with it! Thanks.

There is at least 1 other thread on this forum about Apollo watch straps. Search and you will be rewarded. Regarding display, I think a 3D display is preferred providing proper precautions are made for UV protection. Good luck and please post back here your eventual display.

How about the clear oval piece that many watches use for display?

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

That's a great picture —  which mission did that come from? Is that Stu Roosa in the background?

The image of the watch is supermposed on the original image. The time shown is classic photographers staging or a hell of a coincidence that it just happens to be 10 past 10.

Yes, it was a Photoshoped image (or GIMP, to be precise), and I do believe it is Roosa (it is from Apollo 14).

The reply was part tongue in cheek, part serious. If you have some wonderful Apollo artefact, why not "bring it to life" putting it into a setting of how it might have been encountered in normal circumstances.

Here's a picture that seems to cry out for something to be added, but is perhaps too cheesy. I think some of the "worst" NASA pictures are the best for this type of thing.

So which NASA velcro strap do you own? Was it one that was sold recently at auction?

Thanks for the info.

The Velcro watch strap belonged to Jack Swigert (Apollo 13). It is good condition. Will post some photos of the finished display when it is done. Thanks.

Congratulations on getting it, I had a hunch it might have been. I was interested fleetingly — until the price rose. I spoke to someone at Nate D Sanders before the sale, and they sent me uncropped pictures. They did a bit of digital tidying up, I thought. Have you removed the ginger coloured fluff caught on the hooks, or do you consider it important to keep like it was photographed with?

Such a long strap is very hard to lay out creatively, but a Speedmaster watch would set it off well!
