Does anyone know who makes the shuttle astronauts' black boots? I was trying to see what to says on the heel in some of the crew photos. |

I don't know about now, maybe they are sub-contracted out. Many years ago the standard of the world was the "Corcoran Jump Boot". Everybody that flew any kind of anything wore them. They kept your feet from breaking if you had to eject. |

When I acquired Dale Gardner's flown STS-51A two-piece blue flight suit from his now closed museum, it came with his black boots, also presumably flown. Unlike the suit, which included NASA paperwork, labels and even its original post-flight packaging, the boots did not, so they may have been added later by the museum.So for what its worth, stamped on their bottom is "RO SEARCH", which I assume is a reference to Ro-Search, Inc., a subsidiary of Wellco Enterprises. |

During the Columbia accident astronauts wore just ordinary off the shop shelf Rocky 911 boots. It is still possible to buy identical pair. Lacing is slightly different than in originals.Right shoe is 8" Plain Toe Boot and the one with flat sole. I hope to find right sized secondhand pair to go with my flight suit. |

Too bad you weren't looking for size 11's. I have several pairs of different styles, the perk of going from one duty station to the next in the Navy. |

Touring JSC's Crew Escape lab (which handled the ACES suits), they had a whole bunch of boots of various types on a shelf. The only ones I recognized in the mix were some standard air force FWU-8/p and FWU-3/p flight boots.Also if you look at the mannequin at Space Center Houston that's wearing the STS-1 suit, it has on FWU-3/p flight boots. |

In video of STS-134, it is possible to see that astronaut is playing with Rocky 911 boots. So it seems that last years this was what they used. |
