Just finished an article about tools carried in space by John Young.
While NASA supplied sophisticated tool kits for spacecraft and spacesuit repair for the Apollo missions, John Young, a veteran of three prior space flights which included one lunar flight, then you have a fairly good idea of what little extra tools you personally might need to make a quick repair on a flight to the Moon.

Enjoyed the article, Larry. I'm not sure I would want a pointy awl in my pocket, but obviously Young was comfortable with it...

Looking at the launch stowage list, do we know anything about the "Lunar Surface Demo Exp[eriment]" that Ken Mattingly carried?

Robert, thank you on the story.

I have not focused on any research on the Lunar Surface Demo Exp, but I have thought about it. I have no documentation that describes it. I have no contact with Mattingly to inquire about it. Maybe someone who knows Mattingly can ask him about the experiment.

I believe the Mattingly experiment had to do with dim light photography.

Lou, you gave me the idea to look at the Apollo 16 Prelim Science Report. It might be in there.
