Today (Jan. 14) at 2 p.m. EST (1900 GMT), the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Research and Technology (part of the Committee on Science, Space and Technology) will hold a hearing on "Scientific Research at the Smithsonian: More than a Museum."

Dr. G. Wayne Clough, the out-going Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution will testify.

Joining him on Capitol Hill will be Jennifer Levasseur, specialist in astronaut personal equipment at the National Air and Space Museum, to discuss the research into Neil Armstrong's Apollo 11 Speedmaster chronograph.

The heading will be webcast live.

As it turned out, whatever was presented about Armstrong's Speedmaster was part of a pre-hearing meet and greet between the Smithsonian's staff and the members of Congress. By the time the hearing (and webcast) began, any talk of anything space related was over.

The hearing mostly focused on the Smithsonian's research programs, how they work with other museums and partners around the nation, and how the institution plans to implement the educational programs proposed by the Administration.
