This Apollo Lunar Surface Journal chart indicates that a Portable Life Support System, or PLSS, for the lunar module pilot (Cernan) was on board Apollo 10.

Why was there a PLSS (serial #011) on Apollo 10, and why only one?

In case the docking probe couldn't be removed and a crew transfer EVA would be required and the LMP need to do some tasks setup or to assist the CDR?

As this was a "dress rehearsal" for Apollo 11, I would guess they wanted the Apollo 10 vehicle configured exactly the same as the moon landing mission(s) - even in cases of items that would not be used on the Apollo 10 mission - To make sure the load balancing, storage techniques, etc all work as designed....

Also, if Rusty Schweickart, Apollo 9 LMP, would not have been able to do his EVA (almost came true, due to his illness during Apollo 9), Apollo 10 would have had to attempt that same EVA either in Earth or Lunar orbit. Remember, each procedure/piece of hardware had to be tested before the next flight, and prior to a moon landing.

Your logic has a flaw. There was only one PLSS.

The brief description of the OPS in the Apollo 10 press kit mentions that there were "two stowed in LM". I understand why those were onboard.

The brief description of the PLSS in the Apollo 10 press kit mentions that there was "one stowed in LM". That agrees with what the ALSJ chart says.
