I would be grateful if anyone could shed any light on this Apollo food warmer tray (?) along with what appear to be unflown Apollo era astronaut food. These items are outside my collecting sphere!

They were obtained from the estate of an ex-NASA employee from the 1960's/70's. His children indicated they believed this was a prototype food warming tray for the Apollo program.

Along with the tray came the following astronaut food: a tin of cream of tomato soup (opened) along with what appears to be the tomato soup itself in a plastic container, an opened and empty tin, an unopened tin of Catsup and a plastic orange drink bottle.

We'll let the experts weigh in but I would say the warmer tray is Skylab era. I have a "stack canister" that would have been used for the "tuna-cans".

Also the OJ piece is nice. I have a lot of food related items from Apollo to shuttle era but I don't have the OJ "squeeze bottle" That would be Skylab and later I believe, but again I am not an expert, just learning as I go.

The Apollo era drinks would have been in dehydrated pouches. If interested I can send you a photo of one.

Good luck on the research, it is the best part.

I would agree that the food tray appears to be a prototype Skylab device. The drinks bottles and some cans were used on Apollo; if my memory serves me right I recall seeing cans used on Apollo 11 and the concertina juice drinks circa Apollo 15 onwards but don't quote me on that.

Does anyone find it odd that the warmer tray has a wood grain (Walnut?) finish?

Concur... tray is prototype (not the "as flown") configuration.
