I have a couple of questions about a shuttle-flown item. It's a patch, but I think this is the appropriate place to ask instead of "Patches and Pins."

As you can see, it is a patch showing the Mission Control emblem (more details about which at the bottom of this website), and it is almost a foot in diameter. (Notice the ruler at the bottom.) I also have the hand-signed 1988 NASA letter from "AC/Administrative Officer" to "CA/Director of Flight Operations" confirming that it was flown on Atlantis during STS-27.

My questions are:
Has anyone heard of another patch this large being flown?

Do you think the plastic it is still encased in was also flown? The post-it note sealed along with the patch reads "#77", and the letter says that it was item #77 flown. Are small items to be flown sometimes sealed (not laminated) in such a covering to protect them?

I have a number of small flown items that are also sealed and numbered in the same way, although they are much smaller than that. From what I was told, they were numbered and sealed before flight.

Large flown items are uncommon, but not that rare. As in the attached photo of the STS-131 flight kit, we flew a number of regular WORF patches (upper left), but also flew a couple of large 12-inch diameter WORF plaques (bottom).
