I am trying to track down information on a rear shuttle tire, specifically the flight and orbiter it was use on: S/N 9116N00347 It is a Goodrich tire. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a complete list of all flown shuttle tires (Goodrich) up until STS-78.Unfortunately I cannot find the numbered tire you listed as actually having been flown. The nearest to your number are as follows: 9116N00349 STS41
9116N00348 STS31
9114N00347 STS31
9116N00350 STS31
9113N00347 STS36
9114N00348 STS36 Hope this is helpful to you. |

Thank you John. You were very helpful. The tire appears to have been used on something since the surface shows signs of wear and there is an approximately 10 inch by a 1/4 inch deep piece of rubber missing from the surface. |

I always thought that only BF Goodrich supplied the tires for the space shuttle? I have just read that shuttle returning to earth in 1995 had Michelin? Editor's note: Threads merged. |

Also posted here, B.F. Goodrich merged its tire operations with Uniroyal in 1986, establishing the Uniroyal-Goodrich Tire Company. In 1988, B.F. Goodrich sold its interest in the company and exited the aerospace tire market.In 1990, Michelin acquired Uniroyal-Goodrich and in 1995, the first set of Michelin Air tires were used on the space shuttle. |

Where I work has been very lucky to receive many NASA shuttle artifacts for permanent display. One of my tasks is to help tell the story of the artifacts and I am really having an issue finding history on our nose landing gear. Does anyone have a source I could use to look up possible missions or uses for our tire?The tire came from Kennedy Space Center and has a serial number of 3021N00505. It has two very distinct marks that look like landing marks, but after searching all over I can not find any source with any information. It was certainly after STS-78 which had nose gear tires numbered 3015N00976 and 3019N00666. Not very helpful I am afraid but that is where my records end. |

I have a used (I think) shuttle tire that I'm hoping to find out which mission it flew on. I can't seem to locate a serial number on the tire, just the part number (006-866-2). Does anyone know where I would locate the serial number or how to track down which mission the tire flew on? |

Regarding tire serial numbers — it is the only sidewall marking that is indented rather than raised. It appears under the size (44.5x16.0-21) in the middle of the sidewall. |

Bob, after a careful check, I am not locating a mission designation from your shuttle orbiter tire. Can you provide me with any other information about it, such as, a time frame of when you got it? But for sure, it's a tire from the main landing gear! But when more time permits I'll give it another whirl in carefully examining my data charts for a final try and report back here later. |

I think I have had the two tires for at least 10 years. It is exciting that they are flown tires!!I am used to paying $450.00/hour for such research. Thanks. |

Once saw a great Michelin brochure on the shuttle tires, similar to their "Fly Michelin". |

Bob, Reporting back here, however, I am still not able to locate your shuttle orbiter tire from a flown data record chart.Are you sure the 10 digit number of your tire is recorded as; 5269N00325 From my records, there appears to be no "526-series" of tires reported as flown/used on the shuttle orbiter program. May I inquire how the tire(s) were acquired as anything might help to determine their history? |

Ken, the S/N's for the two tires are 5271N00053 and 5269N00325. I have digital images of both S/N's. Can I email them to you?I did business in north Florida/south Georgia and ran across them there. I was told that they were from the KSC. I appreciate your thoroughness and diligence. |

Bob, there is an orbiter main gear tire with serial number 5270N00053 that flew on Discovery/STS-91 in 1998, however, your serial number appears to be one number off. The one that flew has a zero "0" and not a "1" before the "N." Are you sure yours has a "1" instead of a "0"? |

I had forgotten to mention in my prior posting here, Bob, that I wouldn't mind seeing some image scans of your tires. But not just their serial number areas, but also a closeup view of each tire itself, especially the landing surfaces. |

I am looking for information on a Bridgestone Airplane Tire that was represented as a Space Shuttle Tire. Serial number is 588JY001 and Boeing part number is S160T201-342It is mounted to a Bendix Wheel with part number 2606942 on one side. Date of manufacture on the wheel is 5-91. Any info is appreciated. |
