Does anyone know of any Apollo LES towers and rockets — dummies preferably, that we can get donated to the City of Downey to restore Apollo BP-6 to display condition? |

Jim, I don't know of a spare LES but BP-23, which flew Pad Abort Test-2 after BP-6, is mated with its launch abort system where it sits at Marshall Space Flight Center. According to a post on another website, the engines on that LES were recently found to be still active, making people wary of starting on its restoration. |

Im certain the folks at Thiokol would be all over this if they were asked to assist; the pitch control, tower jettison and launch escape motor's all had launch pad installable (and therefore likely removable) pyrotechnic igniter cartridges to inert the engines. If it's standard Thiokol fare, the propellant grains would have been cast into the combustion chambers and cant be non-destructively extracted (maybe Thiokol can seal up the chambers after pyrotechnics are removed. |

If you're not able to find one, I could build a mock-up one for you using the escape tower drawings. Let me know if you're interested. |
