I have started looking at the Globus IMP system as used in the Vostok and Voskhod spacecraft in the aim of producing a replica, though using Arduino and stepper motors. Clock making is a bit beyond me.
Anyway, actual documentation on the internet at least as to how the globe mechanism worked is a bit lacking and the understanding I do have is mainly from the earlier topic here: Researching and exhibiting Voskhod Globus.
Looking at the globe, my understanding is that long the equator is a plate onto which the two halves of the globe are connected via a spindle so that the globe can turn. That plate is then connected at either end on spindles that can turn. The whole assembly, equator plate for a better name being at approximately 45 degrees to the horizontal.
I have been scouring the internet to find any diagrams and the like but keep most stuff points to here and the few references in the wikipedia article. Any help appreciated.
One of my other ideas with make a replica was to actually feed it two line elements to show where over earth a particular satellite is at any one time.
