When Swedish astronaut Christer Fuglesang joins the mission STS-128 in August 2009 (hopefully) he will bring some cars with him.

Some background: In Sweden there is a very popular sweet called "Ahlgrens bilar" (Mr. Ahlgrens cars). It has been around since the 1950's, and is more popular than ever. I do not know if it is available in US, but you can see it on the web.

I can assure you it is very nice indeed.

Now the company has made limited edition of 100 bags (not for commercial sale though) of "Cars go into space". Christer will bring some bags with him on the upcoming mission to ISS.

"Nu i rymden = Now in space"

I just got hold of a sample bag, and to my joy the sweets are now small shuttles instead.

I hope they get spread around. The Swedish public really needs to get their teeth into the shuttle program.

And I hope STS-128 will be a really "sweet" mission!

I believe the regular kind that looks like cars can be purchased at Ikea stores in the USA.

Almost like the space shuttle butter I had on my plate when I was at the Kennedy Space Center autograph show banquet under the Saturn V.

collectSPACE: Swedish astronaut shares shuttle sweets
Before boarding a space shuttle to leave the International Space Station, Swedish astronaut Christer Fuglesang shared how "sweet" a spacecraft the orbiter could be. During a special video downlink held with Swedish officials and celebrities early Monday morning, Fuglesang and fellow European Space Agency astronaut Frank De Winne from Belgium let loose several small space shuttle-shaped candies before catching them with their mouths, Pac-Man style.
