Does anyone know anything about the Challenger Society and the flown items they have produced/sold? I just obtained a piece of flown aluminized mylar taken from Apollo 8's CM. It is mounted on a page describing the mission and labeled "The Challenger Society / No. 47 of 50." It looks just like this item recently sold by Regency-Superior: http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/2333806 I am satisfied with its authenticity; I just can't find any details about this group or company online. When were they around, what did they sell, how did they get their stuff, and how well-regarded are their products? Anything you could tell me would be appreciated. Thanks, Steve |

Steve--I was one of the early members of The Challenger Society that was headed by Ron Daugherty. It was mostly a group of space collectors and enthusiasts, like us, that really had nothing to do with Shuttle Challenger, the crew families, NASA, or any other "official" ties as the name may refer to. The Society would issue a newsletter, and from time to time, a limited number of space artifact presentations. If I recall, the Society was first formed in late 1986 or early/mid-1987 and lasted only a few short years. |

hello- my father is Ron Daugherty, founder of Challenger Society based out of Acme, PA. What Ken H. told you re:Society is pretty accurate. Is there anything I can help you with re: buying or selling? |

Hello Mr. Dougherty, thanks for writing. I did hear some valuable information in that first reply, but if you have any information about what other space hardware was sold by the Challenger Society- or if you have any more still available for sale- please respond to me directly by clicking on the envelope picture. No pressure since I just wanted some basics and I have learned some good stuff. Thanks very much!Steven T. Smith |

Steve, You may have misread the previous post. I am Ron Daugherty's daughter. Your email is not listed to reply to you directly. Was that the envelope icon you were referring to? How may we get intouch with you?------------------ SA01 |

It would be great if Ken (or anyone else who knows!) could produce a list of all the presentations The Challenger Society did. I have several from Ham's spacecraft to Apollo 8.It would be a great thing to put an entire set together as a collection |

There were a series of cards issued by The Challenger Society, as time permits, I'll try to put together a known listing of all the different card presentations, but I will need more time to relocate all the cards myself. |
